3 Great Hikes in Boulder

Located at the foot of the Rocky Mountains, Boulder has a variety of amazing hiking trails.  Strap on your boots and hit the trail.

Mt. Sanitas Loop (Trailhead: 3rd and Mapleton)
3 Miles Round Trip
1255 ft elevation gain
Your time on this trail is split evenly between the valley trail and along the mountain ridge.  While on the mountain ridge you will enjoy great views to the east of the Boulder Valley. The valley section of the hike is fairly flat with many unleashed dogs and trail runners.

Bobolink Trail (Trailhead: Just west of the intersection of Cherryvale and Baseline Roads)
3 Miles Round Trip
Zero Elevation Gain
A great trail for small children. This trail meanders along South Boulder Creek and is highlighted by self-guided interpretive displays. This area affords seasonal viewing of the bobolink, for which the trailhead was named, and other ground nesting birds.

Walker Ranch (Trailhead: 7.5 miles West on Flagstaff Road from Chautauqua, parking lot will be on your left)
7.6 Miles Round Trip
1700 ft. elevation gain
This trail is for the experienced hiker looking for a great challenge in the surrounding Boulder mountains.  Walker Ranch is a 2,778 acre park operated by Boulder County Open Space.  The trail starts at 7,250 feet and descends down to South Boulder Creek.  Pack your fishing rod so you can test your luck at catching a feisty trout.  Don't fish too long because you still have an exerting climb back to your car.

A Day in the Life of a Local
Take an artistic walk around Boulder with Kim Farin of the Boulder Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Kim Farin
A great way to start your day off is to grab a coffee at the Laughing Goat Coffee House (1709 Pearl St.).  Relax with your cup of coffee while you take a peek at the local art work.  After you catch your morning buzz, head south to the campus of Naropa Institute (2130 Arapahoe Ave.).  This liberal arts university is one of the few major accredited Buddhist-inspired universities in North America.  Sit on the campus lawn where poets Allen Ginsberg and Anne Waldman once discussed ideas on finding Naropa's Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics.  Head west from Naropa University to the Dushanbe Teahouse (1770 13th St.) which is another example of Asian influence in Boulder. Be sure to notice the intricately carved cedar columns and colorfully painted ceiling while you sip a spicy chai.  When you have finished admiring the art and enjoying your cup of tea, wander next door to the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art (1750 13th St.).  For lunch, you might want to consider the French-inspired menu at Brasserie Ten Ten (1011 Walnut St.).  After you wrap up your lunch, it's time to visit a few galleries.  Boulder is home to hundreds of artists and finding their work in this town is not difficult.  You can spend all day perusing galleries so get going!  A great way to visit a lot of Boulder's galleries is to start at 11th and Pearl St. and head east.  Visit Smith Klein (1116 Pearl St.), Art Mart (1222 Pearl St.), Boulder Arts & Crafts (1421 Pearl St.), Middle Fish (1500 Pearl St.), Art & Soul (1615 Pearl St.), and Mary Williams Fine Art (2116 Pearl St.)
