Spring Non-Profit Workshops

Fund Development Planning

May 27, 9am-12:00noon at DWR Center, 948 Incline Way, Incline Village.

What is a fund development plan and why do we need one?  How does this differ from a strategic plan? How do we get started? This workshop will take the participants through a fund development planning process.  Participants will receive a development plan template that will fit any nonprofit planning their future fund development. FREE Computer/Internet/Printer Access

The Plaza Truckee Tahoe is now offering the public free access to computers at the TTUSD district offices (the old middle school).  The computer lab will be open M-F from 1-4pm.  A bilingual, college educated Lab Monitor will be available to assist new computer/Internet users.  Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult.  Come on in and check your email, do your homework, look for jobs or just learn how to use the Internet in a friendly, welcoming environment."    

 

Free College Knowledge Classes  

The Plaza Truckee Tahoe College Preparation Program will facilitate a series of informational classes at the Boys and Girls Club of North Lake Tahoe.

College Preparation Program available for High School Juniors  

The College Preparation Program of the Plaza Truckee Tahoe is available on a sliding scale to all Juniors in high school. This program provides students and their families guidance through the complicated college and financial aid application process. Undocumented students are welcome! Students must register by June 5, 2011 by following the directions here.  

 

Adventure Risk Challenge is recruiting high school students to participate in our innovative 40-day Summer course.  ARC's 40-Day program is an exciting opportunity for high school youth who are ready for the challenge and experience of a lifetime. During the summer participants will backpack, rock climb, kayak, white water raft and complete a ropes course while enhancing their English skills and learning the importance of leadership and teamwork. We are seeking highly motivated high school students, both ELL and native English speakers, who are excited to learn, excited to be in the outdoors, and are ready to challenge themselves to achieve more than they think possible.  Only high school students currently in 9th grade or older can apply.  For more information on the application process please email Shelley Gorin at slgorin@berkeley.edu by April 20 or visit our website at www.arcprogram.org to download an application.

Re-visioning Case Management

Strategies, which focuses on strengthening family-based social service centers in California, presents Re-visioning Case Management: Partnering with Families and Communities to Create Meaningful Change. This training will engage service providers in challenging and expanding how we think about the relationship between case management services and community engagement.

Gymtime

There will be 4 more Open Gymtimes on Mondays April 10-May  Gymtime is a free, weekly, drop-in opportunity for socialization and active play with developmental toys and equipment for ambulatory toddlers and pre-k aged children and their parents/caregivers.  10-11:30am in the Big Gym at the TTUSD District Office. Family Strenthening Case Management

Partnering for change with families and communities can be challenging and complex.  Strategies Family Strengthening Case Management training is designed for professionals and volunteers who work directly with families and communities. This training will: Provide you with the most current thinking regarding family strengthening case management; Make the case for why it is important and how it can be implemented effectively; Be highly participatory and interactive; and Help you to "take the information home with you" in a practical way. By the end of the training, participants will be better able to help their agency offer effective family strengthening case management, and will learn and practice skills to partner for change with families and communities. Webinar on the Unique Challenges Faced by LGBTQ Youth  

LGBTQ youth face unique challenges in our schools and communities that put them at statistically higher risk for social isolation, bullying, and suicide. Please join us for an informative discussion about fostering a positive school and community climate for middle and high school youth regardless of their sexual orientation, gender expression or gender identity.The panel will be facilitated by Melanie Puorto, the director of the Suicide Prevention Initiative at the New York State Office of Mental Health. Loving Solutions Parenting Series - Classes begin as they fill up.

This 7-week, research-based, parenting series is geared for parents of children four to ten years old. Join the series for education and tips that will help you build parenting skills through easy techniques. Utilizing a workbook format, group interaction and home activities for, parents will be able to start using tools at home after the first session!  The English series will be led by Susan Bower, M.A. and the Spanish series will be led by Monina Vazquez, Peer Educator.  The series is $125.00, with workbook and class materials included. Scholarships are available. 

 

ARC Youth Summit  

Don't miss ARC's annual Youth Summit on Saturday, June 4th from 9am to 5pm. Explore your leadership style and teamwork skills through an exciting morning of whitewater rafting  with IRIE Rafting Company on the Lower Gorge of the Truckee River. You'll spend the afternoon learning how to use your natural talents to lead and build a stronger community. ARC's Youth Summit is FREE and open to all Tahoe/Truckee high school students. Navigating Life's Challenges for Transition Age Youth: Presented by Crossroads.  

This training will focus on the unique issues related to transition age youth with mental illness.  It will discuss methods of program development, motivational interviewing a client-centered directive method enhances intrinsic motivation for change, and systems integration to minimize the impact of mental illness in this population. These six elements of compassionate living: Generosity, Discipline, Patience, Joyful Effort, Meditation and Wisdom could be seen as a list of rules or a code of ethics but from the viewpoint of "prajna-wisdom" we infuse them with the spacious quality of egolessness."Paramita" in Sanskrit can be translated as "going to the other shore or going beyond." Funding Opportunities
First 5 Nevada County - Spring Mini Grants Available

For this round of mini grants, the Commission is calling for proposals for programs and services that will help families in crisis; they are prioritizing applications from programs and services that help families of children 0 to 5 with housing, food, transportation and mental health needs; they are also accepting applications for programs that do not address these needs. These funds must be used to serve Nevada County families of pregnant women and/or those with at least one child under six years of age.  To apply for a mini grant go the first5nevco.org to download the guidelines and application or call 265-0611 ext.223.

 

Responsive Grants Program Funding Available

Grants up to $25,000 are available to nonprofit organizations and public agencies to support projects and programs that improve health and quality of life for people living in Sierra Health Foundation's 26-county funding region. Of the $600,000 available in this funding round, at least 30 percent will be awarded for projects and programs serving rural areas of the region. Proposers' conference webinars will be held on April 26 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and on May 18 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Participation in a webinar is recommended, but not required. Placer County Youth Commission Now Accepting Commissioner Applications for the 2011-2012 Year
The Placer County Youth Commission is an Advisory Board to the Board of Supervisors, dedicated to promoting the youth voice in local government and decision-making.  We are composed of 18 youth of diverse backgrounds who care about the Placer County community and have a drive to make our community the best possible place for youth. California's New School Tdap Law
