Teleseminars and E-courses
We've had a rich e-course experience this month with Sandi Radomski and Tom Altaffer in our 2-session Ask and Receive for Emotional Change. Here's what one of our participants had to say about the positive results of the demonstration she experienced:
"Ever since the call last Wednesday (session 1), I have been using Ask & Receive with good results. I have more energy, am more focused & definitely more hopeful! I am so grateful!
That same day, a close friend of mine shared that after coming back from a funeral, her boyfriend broke up with her, Social Security cut her off Disability, & the lady she's been caring for (who offers her a room to stay in) gave her a week's notice. On top of that, doctors found a lesion on her right lung. I could feel she was at the end of her rope, as all areas of her life have been drastically affected. I could feel her deciding whether to attempt to get through all this or check out of the planet.I offered her Ask & Receive, but she has so much on her mind, she did not take me up on doing it in person. However, she accepts my prayers. So, I spent over an hour doing surrogate work that same Wednesday, just hours after our call. I used some of the phrases listed in the handout & then trusted my intuition for further work.
The next day, I asked how she was - she just texted back that "things are shifting very rapidly!". She had found a doctor to get a second opinion for Social Security (who is an excellent advocate for patients), was getting other emotional support, had decided to stay & live. I "knew" that Ask & Receive had helped her!
A few days later, I visited an outdoor market where one musician played salsa - which I used to dance to pre-accidents. I got up & joined others dancing! (Although my hips still hurt today, it did me a world of good to dance!)
When I was driving again with my friend, who was actively grieving and upset, I felt myself absorbing her energy (not healthy for me), so I used A&R silently while driving, affirming I could stay contained & not absorb her pain. Afterwards not only did I feel better - but her energy shifted as well!
I have felt much more grounded, happier & clearer. So much is possible! And to think that as I learn more, it will get easier to tune in to what will help me & others. Ask & Receive is so much easier for me to do (compared to EFT or TFT). I can feel the energy shifts right away. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I find it awesome that with just one 90 minute class & reading the handout, I was able to use this approach right away & help others!"
I've had so many amazing healing results with Ask and Receive and we shared many more during our 3 hours of the e-course! I want to make sure you have an opportunity to listen to this quality event to learn about its power and simplicity for yourself. Sandi and Tom added three additional bonuses for part 2! I cannot imagine a more complete learning experience with a tool that you can begin using for yourself and with others immediately and effectively and with confidence! Register Now for the audio replay or permanent download (your choice). Don't delay as we will close registration by the end of May. Our Wednesday, June 6 teleseminar on Coping with Dissociation and Other Trauma Symptoms features Kathy Steele, past president of the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation and author of The Haunted Self (with Onno van der Hart and Ellert Nijenhuis), and author of Coping with Trauma-Related Dissociation: Skills Training for Patients and Therapists (with Onno van der Hart and Suzette Boon).
Join Kathy and me live from 9 am - 10:30 am (PST), on June 6 (you'll receive automatic replay & download regardless of whether you can attend live). We promise to offer you "cutting edge" information on how to work effectively with dissociative and other problems related to trauma. Some of our topics include:
- The latest theories and research on dissociation
- Strategies for regulating the self in distress: Tools for self-regulation
- How to work with phobic reactions to exploring the inner world
- How to utilize dissociative reactions to encourage integrated functioning
- How to resolve dissociative episodes
- Ways to foster secure attachment in the therapy relationship and in the inner system

News You Can Use
Freedom From Pain: How to Prepare Successfully for Surgery and Pain Prevention
I've been interviewed three times this week about my new book (with Peter Levine), Freedom From Pain. One of the questions that keeps rising to the surface is,"How do the
practices in your book help to prepare people for successful surgery, optimal pain management related to surgery, and prevention
of medical trauma?"
This is an important question and one that Peter and I both feel very strongly about. We have seen many clients who have suffered severe, unmanaged pain
leading up to and following surgery, individuals whose condition has worsened following surgery, along with those who have never recovered from the after effects of surgery and other invasive medical procedures.
One of the strategies we suggest in Freedom From Pain is the importance of creating an individualized Pain Plan with the cooperation of surgeons or relevant medical professionals. This is a highly important step to take in being able to prevent unmanageable pain and in building confidence in achieving freedom from pain.
We suggest the following steps in developing a successful pain plan with your surgeon or treating professional:
1. Start your discussion with your needs for medication that you know about. Inform the professional who will be prescribing meds for your procedure, treatment, or surgery about ALL of your current uses of medication, including prescriptions, over the counter remedies, and supplements.
2. Discuss past experiences when you were under medicated, over medicated, or had adverse reactions to anesthesia or medication. If you have ever had allergic reactions, this is especially important to disclose.
3. If you tend to have hypersensitivities to most medications, be direct about this aspect of your health history. If you're trying new medication,
it might be best to "start low and go slow," starting at a low dose and arranging for careful monitoring.
4. Guard against gaps in your medication during your recovery process. Make sure you have direct contact with someone on your medical team and can feel comfortable contacting them by cell phone, email, fax, or business phone to discuss changes in your medication needs. It is especially important to make sure that you know what your options are if you have unexpected spikes in pain, and that you are not discharged from the clinic or hospital without orders that will cover all possible needs for medication.
5. Don't accept the possibility that you can wait to discuss your pain needs during postoperative or follow-up visits. Guard against the possibility that any changes in medical schedules may result in your being without timely access to refills or alternatives to medications that aren't working properly for you. Insist on reliable access to your prescribing professional.
6. Explore your own or your professional's concerns about the danger of addiction or dependency. In many cases, these fears are inflated in view of how risky it is to get behind on pain regulation. We have found that when pain is properly regulated, the likelihood for addiction is greatly reduced.
7. If you have difficulties with sleep, anxiety, or depression that are not being addressed currently, process these concerns before the procedure. A common situation when pain goes unmanaged is when a patient is not sleeping well enough to recover or heal well. If your anxiety tends to be high related to pain or invasive procedures, ask about short-term management as part of your pain plan. If you are depressed, and are not being treated for this condition, please consider being evaluated and treated before the procedure, especially if it is life-threatening.
8. Keep in mind that you need a secure situation. If your pain becomes intolerable, and you are not able to receive help in a timely manner, this may prevent you from optimal healing and from participating in physical therapy or other treatment that is needed for a full recovery.
9. Remember that your right to adequate pain management is now included in "The Pain Patient's Bill of Rights" (published by the National Pain Foundation or included in individual hospital treatment guidelines.) Ask about how this applies to you and know your rights before you have a need to exercise them.
This material is based on a section of Freedom From Pain: Discover Your Body's Power to Overcome Physical Pain, released May 1st by Sounds True.
