Teleseminar Calendar
 This month's teleseminar
event
is a special 3-hour e-workshop with Peter Levine and me on How SE (Somatic Experiencing®) Can Maximize Strength, Resiliency, and Triumph. This event
will be held on Thursday, June 10, from 9 am - 12 pm Pacific time (live).
Remember you do not need to arrange your schedule to attend live because you
gain full and permanent access to all audio, video and written content. Go now to register www.maggiephillipsphd.com/courses_teleseminars_pl.html.
To make sure that this is a workshop you will want to attend, please submit
your questions and topics in advance to us at www.maggiephillipsphd.com/courses_interactive_pl.html. We're excited about the
format because we will begin with a 1.5-hour presentation on theories of
resiliency, trauma, and how Somatic Experience® theory and practice makes it
uniquely suited to work with both. We follow this with a 45-minute detailed
analysis of Peter's video work with Ray, an Iraqi veteran (registrants will receive the
video link before the e-workshop). We will focus on the
subtleties of Peter's interventions and why and how they work. Finally, we
close with a 30-minute live question and answer session to help you apply what
you have heard. Topics we will discuss include: - Theories of resiliency and how they relate to the SE model;
- How to identify, follow, and amplify the imprints of innate
strengths when exploring body experience with yourself or others,
including
experiences related to preverbal, early childhood trauma;
- Ways of countering and successfully releasing the forceful
energies related to unresolved
traumatic experiences and incomplete survival responses locked in our
bodies;
- How life-preserving energies can be transformed into
life-enhancing energies;
- How to orchestrate moments of triumph using SE principles
and methods.
Please register at www.maggiephillipsphd.com/courses_teleseminars_pl.html.
Save the Date... In July, we welcome Jesse
Cannone who has a highly effective approach to the treatment of back pain. Our
teleseminar, How to Lose Your Back
Pain will run live on Thursday, July 15, from 9 am - 10:30 am Pacific time.
Please watch for subsequent emails about this event. Until then, visit www.losethebackpain.com and receive
a free copy of Jesse's The 7 Day Back
Pain Cure Book.

Reversing
Chronic Pain Integrated Program
I'm very happy to announce
the launch of our new and updated reversing chronic pain program. For a limited
time, you can purchase the full 10-module course of Reversing Chronic Pain Online for $69.97. This program is finally
complete and here's some of the feedback we've received:
Maggie Phillips "10 Steps to
Reversing Chronic Pain" is the most comprehensive program for helping people find relief from pain that I have ever
discovered. As a psychotherapist,
Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner and long time chronic pain sufferer, I cannot say enough good things about Maggie's work. Both her book and her online 10-step program
offers every format that I have ever found for assisting people to manage pain and then some. Because everyone is unique and benefit differently from various approaches, it is wonderful to find in
one place such a vast array of tools to help people cope with pain. When one approach does not help with a certain pain condition I simply move on to another until I
find what helps me or my clients the best.
Maggie's energy and efforts to
help suffering people is tremendously impressive. I owe her much gratitude.
- Erica
J Burns, MA, LPC To read more testimonals and
information, as well as registration instructions, please visit http://bit.ly/reversingpain. Much of the feedback I'm
receiving, while very positive, also asks for more help. I have been working with this need and
am so excited to announce to you the creation of a new Live 10-Session Group Coaching Program to accompany the Reversing Chronic Pain 10-Step Online
Program. The group coaching
sessions will commence on June 16. To be included in the coaching program, you must register by Monday, June 14. Prior to the first session, you
will receive a Study Guide, and each week you will also receive an mp3 recording of
the one-hour session so you can review the information as often as you wish. I've heard from many pain
sufferers, asking that I hold these kinds of sessions and that I include their
specific questions on how to best handle their situations. When you register for the Group
Coaching Program, you will be provided with an email address where you can send
your questions. Plus - you can
volunteer to participate in the live coaching as well! The cost for the group
coaching program alone is $69.97. Right now you can purchase BOTH the online program and the coaching program together for
only $99.97. This is a huge savings and less than it would cost you to attend
one session with a health or counseling provider! Don't delay signing up. THE FIRST 20 PEOPLE TO ENROLL
WILL RECEIVE A FREE AUTOGRAPHED COPY OF MY BOOK, REVERSING CHRONIC PAIN! Go now to sign up at http://www.reversingchronicpain.com/groupcoaching.html.
If you want to read more about the
program and experience a small sample, scroll down on that page to explore a
mini-sample of what you'll be receiving. Please note that this is a no-risk offer. If
unsatisfied for any reason after attending the first group coaching
session, I
will refund your payment in full. That's how sure I am that you will
benefit
from this new addition to our pain programs. I hope you will take advantage of this program and
send anyone with a serious pain problem to http://bit.ly/reversingpain.

News From the Mindbody Health
Frontier
This month's article on What We Are Learning From Returning Veterans is inspired by reports from
Belleruth Naparstek , a leading authority on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and imagery (visit her at
www.healingjourneys.com), and from The Institute of HeartMath (see www.heartmath.org). Since our e-workshop
with Peter Levine features a video with Ray, a returning Iraqi veteran, this
topic is a timely one. The Institute of HeartMath
(IHM) points out that more than 25% of the 1.64 million troops deployed in Iraq
and Afghanistan report significant mental health challenges. Quoting the Rand
study, The Invisible Wounds of War, "...the
psychological toll of these deployments - many involving prolonged exposure to
combat-related stress over multiple rotations - may be disproportionately high
compared with the physical injuries of combat." An even more revealing
statistic included in a report submitted by Brig. Gen. Michael Kussman is that an estimated 18 soldiers commit
suicide each day, a figure significantly higher than those killed in combat.
This outcome is no doubt related to the fact that PTSD is the most common
psychological combat disorder and a more general disorder known as COSR (combat
operations stress reactions) affects even more troops with symptoms such as
hypervigilance, hyperarousal, sleep disturbance, nightmares, mood disturbance,
irritability, and memory and concentration difficulties. We can learn a lot from some of
the recent programs and research studies sponsored and implemented by the
Veterans Administration. The IHM describes how HeartMath's
heart-rate-variability-coherence biofeedback (HRVCB) training can help relieve
symptoms related to both short-term aspects of COSR and long-term impact from
PTSD. In the HeartMath program, participants learn to self-regulate heart rate
variability by associating it with a positive emotional state and then
intentionally producing the positive emotional state that increases coherence.
Improvements include autonomic balancing, emotional restructuring and more consistent
mindbody functioning related to stress. Belleruth Naparstek notes
that most troops avoid counseling, viewing it as shameful and demeaning and
with the danger of labeling them pejoratively. For this reason, the most
popular is self-help via audio downloads. Reports from the Phoenix VA suggest
that about 70% of soldiers treated respond well to guided imagery. Since many returning troops
have difficulty relaxing and are in an alarm state most of the time, she
introduces guided imagery for relaxation, self-regulation skills and sleep
improvement. The use of Critical Incident Stress Debriefing, employed in combat
locations, gets poor scores from most soldiers while a combination of
biofeedback and guided imagery, martial arts like qi-gong, and downloads of
brief guided imagery techniques to address anger, forgiveness, and stress
hardiness received high marks. Interventions, including audio downloads, that
address the direct healing of trauma are rated as "too intense" by many of the
armed forces clients. To read summaries of studies conducted by the Duke
University Veterans Administration, visit www.healthjourneys.com/dukestudy.asp If any of you are working
with veterans, we would welcome your feedback about what you have found
effective as well as what does not seem to work so well. We will publish your
feedback in a future issue of our newsletter. Please submit your feedback to me at www.maggiephillipsphd.com/veterans.html. With my best wishes for your
ongoing health and well-being,
Maggie
