Dear Colleague,
In this issue of my email newsletter, along
with my gratitude, I offer
you more research results on the most
effective ways to address chronic pain, and
include an invitation for you to join me on the
phone for live teleseminars
on the subjects covered in my book,
Reversing Chronic Pain.
I wish for all of you a peaceful, restful and
joyous holiday season. Thanks for continuing
to include me in your new year.
Warmest Wishes,

Gratitude |

At this time of year, when it's easy to get
lost in the hectic consumerism that appears
to be glued to the holiday season, focusing
on gratitude is an important antidote. There
is a wonderful website on gratitude that will
send you free daily emails on the subject and
provide other services as well. To visit, go
to www.gratefulness.org.
I continue to be grateful for feedback and
helpful comments on the Reversing Chronic
Pain book. Here is one of the most recent
ones:
"Congratulations on writing a
straight-forward book that draws on the best
of information from the field of Chronic Pain
Treatment, Somatic Experiencing and Energy
Psychology. It is no easy task to extract
the relevant elements and show how they can
be applied to this specific population. You
have done an excellent job. This book will
be an on-going resource for myself as well as
my patients. Again, thanks for making this
information available in such a succinct way
- your expertise is clearly evident in this
book."
-- Dr. Phyllis Mabbett, RN, Ph.D.

What's New? |
Live Teleseminars: |
December 12
January 23
|
|
|
There is another Reversing Chronic Pain
teleseminar fast approaching
on December 12 at 9 am Pacific
time, 12 pm East Coast time, and 6 pm
European time. The last teleseminar on
November 28 was very stimulating. This is the
time of year where it's hard to think about
signing up for one more thing, but please
spend 30 seconds considering this
possibility. In the November call we discussed:
- Are there reliable ways to interrupt pain
cycles?
- Why do I always seem to develop pain that
prevents me from doing the things I really
want to do?
- How do I come to believe I deserve to
live without pain?
- What is the best place to start with pain
treatment?
- How can I help my loved one or friend
with their pain problem?
- How do I help people believe that they
are already having moments without pain?
We also included 2 practice exercises
designed to begin to shift pain directly.
What about YOU? What would you need to
convince yourself or someone you care about
to enroll in the December 12 seminar? If you
submit questions or issues that are important
to you before the call, I guarantee
that you will hear the answers on the call.
And if there is a skill you want to learn, I
guarantee that I will teach it on the
call. How can I make these guarantees? This
is how strongly I believe in interactive
learning that helps you engage fully in a
change program. Because you "buy in" when you
decide the questions that are most important
to you right now in terms of treating and
resolving pain, you will receive maximum
benefits from the call.

interactive learning and to submit your
questions, click

Each of the next 2 Reversing Chronic Pain
teleseminars on December 12 and January 23rd
are $40 each, or 2 for $70. For the next 10
people that enroll in both seminars, you will
also be given free access to a live video
presentation on one of the most important
secrets in resolving pain which involves
treating past trauma. To enroll now, click
here. To send this announcement to
someone you care about, use the froward email
option at the
bottom of this email.
You may enroll in the December 12 seminar up
until 6 pm Pacific time on December 11.

payment (for help in using PayPal, click

News From the Pain Front |
|
There continues to be a lot of controversy
around reliance on pain medication.
One recent study noted that making
medications reliably available at the same
time every month reduced pain patient anxiety
levels by more than 20%. Once
patients perceived that their pain would be
managed, they were more open to receiving
help improving quality of life as well as
pain symptoms.
Most effective pain treatment programs are
multi-dimensional. A typical plan might be:
Address relevant lifestyle issues such as
weight loss, addictions, and family
conflicts; discuss job satisfaction and work
ergonomics; review patient's functional
status in terms of quality of life; prescribe
supplements and alternate treatment including
massage therapy, acupuncture, or use of a
TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve
stimulation) unit; probe psychosocial issues,
such as fear of change, motivation for
change, spiritual beliefs, and discuss styles
of change.
What seems to be missing, in my opinion, is
an evaluation of what changes a patient is
ready and willing to make and why. There are
numerous multi-pronged programs designed to
resolve chronic pain. Unless the patient is
invested as a FULL partner in change,
however, these approaches will not be
effective. Practitioners who treat pain MUST
be willing to support any positive change, no
matter how small, tin order to create an
effective treatment partnership, which in
turn can help the person in pain develop a
strong mind-body partnership.
