Greetings!
When you're in business, being poised and ready for
the next opportunity makes a tremendous difference
on your level of success. Poised and ready doesn't
mean sitting around and waiting. What it does mean
is that you can move on a dime to take advantage of
whatever crosses your path. In business, this
readiness stance is even more essential.
I learned this philosophy from the family dog, Rusty. A
true Terrier, Rusty had plenty of energy. He loved to
play catch, chase cars, and run around with the kids.
But here's the thing, no matter what Rusty was doing,
when the doorbell rang, he came running like a shot
out of a cannon. He never missed a chance to greet
the bell ringer. The amazing thing was that the door
was never for him! That didn't matter to Rusty. Every
time the door bell rang was another opportunity and
Rusty was ready for it.
Thinking about his routine, I realized the intrinsic value
of the dog's behavior and started calling it "Rusty
Ready." Rusty became my team's role model.
Everyone took time to figure out how they could be
more prepared and maintain a vigilant attitude.
Here's what we decided was necessary to be "Rusty
Ready"
- Be open to recognizing an opportunity
- Be ready to jump in no matter what
- Don't worry about the end result
- Don't worry about what will happen next
- Always start fresh without any baggage
- Approach each opportunity like it's the very first
time
The team applied these principles and while it took
some practice to develop new habits, the results were
outstanding results. If you manage a team that could
use a new source of motivation, or just want to boost
your own sales, try Rusty's Formula for Success.
You'll be ready for anything, feel excited about each
new opportunity, improve performance and enjoy the
process a whole lot more. Take it from someone who
knew Rusty - he loved every race to the door.
