Invasive Species News
"Snakehead capture raises spectre of invasive species"
Michael V'Inkin Lee, The Vancouver Sun, June 9, 2012
"The hunt for Burnaby's snakehead menace ended on Friday, but the fish that sparked the intense search-and-capture operation in Central Park lagoon is only a small part of a bigger problem in B.C. 'Invasive animal species [are a] leading threat to biodiversity,' said Greg Ferguson of the Stanley Park Ecology Society."

"Officials worry about creatures on tsunami dock"
Jeff Barnard, Associated Press, June 11, 2012
"When the tsunami hit the northern coast of Japan last year, the waves ripped four dock floats the size of freight train boxcars from their pilings in the fishing port of Misawa and turned them over to the whims of wind and currents.
One floated up on a nearby island.  Two have no been see again.  But one made an incredible journey across 5,000 miles of ocean that ended this week on a popular Oregon beach."

"Funding cuts for battling Milfoil species on North Idaho Lakes"
Cole Heath & KREM.com, NWCN, June 11, 2012
"NORTH IDAHO--New changes could affect how you fight a big problem plaguing lakes across North Idaho. The Idaho Department of Agriculture is scaling back funding to battle the Milfoil invasive species on Hayden Lake. Rather than using chemicals to kill the plant across most of the lake, they'll only use it on parts of the water. Folks will have to use their own money to prevent outbreaks on their property."

"Bee Prepared to Help Bees: 6th Annual National Pollinator Week, June 18-24th Brings Action for Vital Pollinators"
Pollinator Partnership, Media Release, June 18, 2012
"This June, celebrate the first day of summer by taking part in the 6th Annual Pollinator Week, an international celebration of the valuable ecosystem services provided by bees, birds, butterflies, bats and beetles.  The week of June 18-24th will spotlight a unique opportunity to learn about some fascinating and fundamental animals - the pollinators."
