LAUREL, MARYLAND - January 20, 2012 - The Laurel Arts District Exploratory Committee (LADEC) invites all interested parties to share ideas at an open house on Thursday, February 16, 2012 from 4-6:30pm at the Venus Theatre located at 21 C Street, Laurel.

The Laurel Arts District Exploratory Committee (LADEC) was formed 6 months ago by local artists and arts related businesses in response to the City of Laurel designating a section of Historic Old Town as an Arts District.  It has been meeting regularly since. The objective is to see how we can best and most effectively use our existing community resources to grow a strong and sustainable City through the Arts. At our meetings we try to work in conjunction with City Hall and the Laurel Board of Trade to build a management component that will resurrect Main Street. 

Based on the successful examples of other Maryland towns with Arts Districts we anticipate that support and expansion of the Arts will draw patrons to Laurel.  Once here, they will see and patronize other Laurel businesses, helping them to flourish along with the Arts.  One of our foci for the Arts District has been the unique history and culture of the City that can lead us into a unique future.
