Timely Tips February 2012:
1, 2, 3 Click! in Outlook and Office

* Plus a webinar replay, upcoming webinar, and new program I'm now offering
February 2012
Greetings!

You'll notice that I've been sending out my Timely Tips at the end of the month instead of the beginning of the month.  No, I'm not procrastinating!  There have been several big developments going on in my business, and things are happening so fast that I've been holding on telling you until they've become more "solid".  I'm doing it again this month -- even taking advantage of the "leap day" to do so.

I have a great Timely Tip this month for Outlook and Office users (OpenOffice users too!  See below!), but I also have information on a no-cost webinar replay if you have an interest in using webinars for your business/organization, information on my full 90-minute Taming E-mail Webinar coming up in two short weeks (look to the right), and a cool app of the month.

Lots to talk about on this last day of February (Spring is SOOO close now!) Let's get to it!
Timely Tips February 2012 -- 1, 2, 3 Click! in Outlook & Office
This is ALWAYS the place to look for your Timely Tip!

Try this right now.  Go into a current e-mail in your inbox, and hit "reply" or "forward".  Then, move your mouse over the active text in the text block, and try each of these:

Click Once -- you'll drop the cursor right into the text spot where your mouse is hovering.  You are ready to edit.

Click Twice (fast) -- you'll highlight (select) the word you are hovering over.  You can now replace that word with different text, or copy it into your clipboard to use again later.

Click Three Times (fast) -- you'll highlight (select) the entire line and/or even entire paragraph of text that you are hovering over.  Now, you can either start typing and completely replace that text, or, once again, copy that text into your clipboard for later use and/or move it to a different location.

I use this "1, 2, 3 click" method all the time when composing and editing e-mails.  I often use it to help me quickly change and move information in my "auto-signatures" to better customize and personalize my messages.  It is far quicker than putting the cursor at the beginning of the text, dragging the cursor to the end of the desired text, and then letting go of the click.  Plus, it is more accurate too.

Now, try this SAME strategy in a Word or Excel document, or even PowerPoint (or the comparable functions in OpenOffice.)  Yep, IT WORKS THERE TOO!  (It is a bit different how it works in Excel, but test it and see what it brings to you.)  It even seems to work in Google Docs -- whatever you are using, you can use this little "1, 2, 3 Click!" tip for speedy editing and/or text selection.  Have at it!!

New Program Announcement:
Smart Phone Success:  Getting More Productivity (and Fun!) from Your Smart Phone Devices

Many of you may have already received a personal e-mail from me or my new assistant, Samantha "Sam" Clarkson, on this new program.  For those of you that haven't, here are the details on a new program I started offering at the beginning of this year, primarily to help IPhone, Droid, and even BlackBerry users get more productivity from their "smart phone" devices, and even related tablet devices like IPads and Kindle Fires.

I developed this program primarily through the research I did when upgrading late in 2011 from my BlackBerry device to a new Droid Bionic Smart Phone and Kindle Fire at the same time as my wife upgraded to an IPhone and IPad (I thus designed this program to give coverage of Droid, Apple OS, and BlackBerry devices).  I compiled all of the learnings involved in that upgrade process into a fairly comprehensive program on the "smart use of smart phones".

It seems to be a hot topic, as I've already had several bookings moving forward, and have delivered the program several times since the first of the year, including at a big national convention where it has already created spin-off bookings.  Here is the full program description:

Program Title:  Smart Phone Success:  Getting More Productivity (and Fun!) from Your Smart Phone Devices

Description:

You know which apps are fun, but what apps and functions will help you turn your Droid, IPhone, and/or BlackBerry into a productivity workhorse? In this session, we'll not only discuss the apps and peripheral devices that help take your SmartPhone (and tablets) from "cool" to "critical" when it comes to productivity, time, project, people, and e-mail management, we'll also discuss the "critical basics" for true mobile productivity as envisioned by the original creators of PDAs & SmartPhones. A highlight to this program is when the presenter, Randy Dean, opens up the floor to program participants to share their favorite apps, allowing people to gain knowledge from all program attendees.

Learning Points:

- Brief history of SmartPhones/PDAs and where we are now

- Basic productivity tools useful on ALL SmartPhones now

- Integrating SmartPhone with other existing productivity software (including Outlook)

- Specific tips and apps for e-mail, calendar, contacts, tasks, and notes

- Password, log-in, and private info strategy

- Useful "basic" productivity-based apps & tools

- SmartPhone & Tablet peripheral devices & services for additional productivity

- A discussion on SmartPhone power management

- Going beyond the basics -- more apps & services for "extended" productivity

--- Communications tools/apps

--- Financial Management/Biz Management

--- Travel Management

--- Social Networking

--- Just REALLY cool apps

--- And MORE!!

I did a ton of research to bring this program to life, and would love to share it with your group, company, or association.  Contact me at randy@randalldean.com if you would like to discuss options.  (And YES, I will likely be offering this program in a paid webinar format sometime later this year.)

Full-Version Taming the E-mail Beast Webinar
We are now only two weeks away from my 90-minute Taming E-mail Webinar session.  Here is the information page on this program, with a link to the program registration page.

This program is the same in-depth program I frequently deliver at conferences, meetings, and corporate/university training events.  It has a specific focus on e-mail management, and, while the demonstrations will be done in Microsoft Outlook 2007, the key strategies are applicable to ANYONE using (and struggling with e-mail)

This is a paid program being sponsored by Copper Conferencing, Chrometa, Indiana Society of Association Executives, Michigan Association of Realtors, Associated General Contractors of Michigan, and several other firms.

I have also made connections with several other top speakers, authors, and consultants who will be co-promoting this event and providing some outstanding bonus gifts for program registrants (worth far more than the registration cost.)  I'm even offering a free e-book copy of Taming the E-mail Beast to all program registrants.

As a reader of Timely Tips, if you use the registration code "Timelyman", you can receive an extra 10% off the registration price.  And, right now (for about another week), we have an additional $20 discount for "early bird" registrations.  Here's the link again to the program information page.

This will be a great way for an individual or small group of people to get this training at a VERY affordable rate.  And, I expect this to be the first of a series of paid webinars I'll be hosting on Copper Conferencing throughout 2012 and into 2013 on ALL of my major topics (Optimizing Outlook, SmartPhone Success, Using Google for Time Management, and more!)

We will also be recording these programs for post-program sale and download, thus allowing for a full catalog of my most popular programs in coming months.  (And if you can't make this date and time, register now anyway -- we'll make the recording available to you for use at your leisure.)

App of the Month

Key Ring

Key Ring -- available on both the Android Market and the IPhone App Store, as well as for Windows Phones and BlackBerries.

Last month, I shared the Grocery IQ app as a great app for building "cloud-stored, shareable" shopping lists for all of your favorite stores (not just groceries!)

This month, I think I'll stay in the shopping genre and feature the Key Ring application (keyringapp.com -- there is a great little demo video on this site about the app!

This cool little app allows you to scan in your shopping loyalty cards for most major retailers, so you don't need to carry all 20 of them on your key ring anymore!

It uses increasingly ubiquitous barcode technology, so you can simply scan your card off the face of your smart phone at checkout, rather than have to find the card.  Definitely a potential time (and money!) saver.  And this one works on ALL of the major phone platforms.

Check it out today!  (Sorry, couldn't resist the pun.)  ;-)
