| Greetings!
Hi Everyone,
It is August - already the final full
month of summer. I hope you've had as good a summer as I have had.
Since I know many of you are in the heart of "Family Vacation"
Season, I wanted to give you a relatively light Timely Tip this month
- something sort of funny and yet pretty useful too (especially for
some of us more than others!) Here it is:
|
An Outlook Add-on to Save Unnecessary E-mail Embarrassment/Grief? ToneCheck
| This is ALWAYS the place to look for your Timely Tip!
The fact that my wife sent this ToneCheck Outlook
add-on app to me for consideration should speak volumes. She
obviously thinks I personally need to test this one out. She's
probably right - and not just because I'm the "totally obsessed
e-mail guy". All of us have our "Grumpy Gus" or "Crabigail"
moments (yours truly included!) And sometimes, we are having one of
those moments when we are composing an e-mail. It happens to the
best of us (and to some of us much more than others!) Well, the
people at Lymbix realized there is a huge market for "situational
e-mail grumpiness" (or worse.) So, they built an add-on app for MS
Outlook users that allows you to scan your e-mail text prior to
sending to look for emotionally or situationally inappropriate
content. You can learn more and view the demo here.
I just find the entire concept of this
app hilarious, but also potentially VERY useful (once again, more for
some of us than others!) Have you ever been in "a mood" and
decided to "roast one off" to a co-worker, client or vendor by
e-mail? And then you hit the "Send" button with a sudden wave of
conscience and dread??? Well, this app MIGHT give you the chance for one more round
of sanity before blowing the key relationship, client account, etc.
(I say "might" because it will only work if you USE it, and if
your momentary grumpiness or insanity is caught by the app's text
filter.)
I'd love to hear about your testing
experiences with this app. I'll give it a try myself, and report
back to you on the results in future Timely Tips.

Did You Miss Last Month's Taming E-mail Teleseminar with Stacy Karacostas?
| No worries - if you missed the
teleseminar, you can listen to the 1-hour replay here. There are a number of good tips and strategies for better
managing your e-mail, and we also discuss the whole movement to "Time
Management in 'The Cloud' (Using Google Apps for Time & Life
Management)". You'll likely be seeing quite a bit more from me on
this topic in coming months, but don't forget that I am also of
course still leading my highly-regarded programs on Optimizing Your
Outlook and Taming the E-mail Beast that feature live demonstrations
of how to better use Microsoft Outlook.
I do think it is great that there are
more choices out there for how to handle personal
productivity-related data and information. The challenge in coming
years will be figuring out from an individual and organizational
perspective which "mix" of data services (online vs.
server-based) and hardware platforms will best fit the productivity,
access, and privacy needs of people and firms. Welcome to a whole
new world, thanks to Apple & Google!

Interesting Blog Post on Procrastination/Lacking Productivity
|
My good friend Todd Jungling of WSI
Internet Consulting/Jungling Consulting & Education shared this very interesting blog post link with me by Michael Hyatt. I've
actually followed Michael's blog previously, and he frequently takes
on productivity topics. Might be worth a follow if you are looking
for more sources on productivity-related matters.
