| Greetings!
Hi Everyone! So, it looks like we've survived the worst of winter 2010, and at least here in sunny East Lansing, the thaw has begun. Of course, you know what they say about March -- "When it comes in like a lamb ..."
I've got a great Timely Tip for all of you MS Outlook users this month, provided by Timely Tip reader Kevin Smart, SPHR of Central Michigan University. This is one of those tips on Outlook that I should have known, but didn't, and I'm really thankful to Kevin for sharing. Thanks also to the rest of you that are continuously sharing these tips -- I've been doing this e-newsletter for nearly 6 years now, and I thought I might at some point run out of content, but with all of you continuing to share, you've not only made me a whole bunch smarter (something I obviously need), you've helped spread this great content to a much broader group of interested professionals. Thank you! Here's that Outlook Timely Tip:

GREAT E-mail tip from a Timely Tips Reader
|
|
This is the place to ALWAYS look to find your monthly Timely Tip.
Here is that great Outlook tip from Kevin Smart at CMU:
"I use
dual monitors at work. I've been switching back and forth from Outlook calendar
to Outlook email on a single screen. I found out today that I can have an
Outlook calendar up on one screen while my Outlook email, or tasks are up on
the other screen.
To do
this, go to your Outlook window. If you're already in email, go down to
the shortcut menu at the lower left, and right click on "calendar".
You'll get an option to "open in new window." Click on that,
and the new Outlook instance opens up. You now have both mail and calendar
open and readily accessible."
Kevin, I went in and tested this on both a single-monitor and dual-monitor set up, and it works great. And it isn't just limited to calendar and e-mail -- you can "right-click" on any of the major Outlook functions (task list, notes, contacts) and get them to open in a new window. Thus, you can have your calendar and/or task list handy while writing an e-mail that refers to this other information. This is a definite time saver and one that has become a standard tool I'm using every day. (I bet this may work in some of the other popular e-mail/calendar tools too, like Lotus Notes, GroupWise, Entourage, and others -- if this works in those programs, please let me know, and I'll share with readers next month as well as on my Timely Tips blog site -- http://www.Timely-Tips.blogspot.com (this is where you can get all of my frequent "tweets" too.)

Randy on the Internet Radio I'm on the Tom On Leadership Radio Program this Friday Morning
|
This is one of the more popular Internet Talk Radio programs on blogTalkRadio, led by Thomas Cox of Cox Business Consulting (this link takes you to his blog). Here's the link to the show information:
http://www.blogtalkradio.com/tom-on-leadership/2010/03/05/ceos-and-email-sanity
I'll be on at 10:00 a.m. Eastern, 9:00 a.m. Central, 8:00 a.m. Mountain, and 7:00 a.m. Pacific on Friday, March 5th. We'll be talking about effective e-mail management for senior managers. Tom will also be recording the session and making the interview available online after that -- I'll share in next month's Timely Tips, and before that on Twitter (@timelyman), my Facebook Taming E-mail Fan Page (please become a fan!), my LinkedIn profile, and my Timely Tips Blog Spot. (I encourage you to take advantage of these many social media opportunities to stay connected.)
By the way, on the morning of March 30th, I'll be leading a live/webinar event for the Michigan Association for Certified Public Accountants (MACPA) on "Getting Started in Social Media" with my good friend, business associate, and fellow MSU MBA alum Todd Jungling of WSI Internet Consulting of Rochester Hills, Michigan. You can use the MACPA link above to find out more and register for this really valuable (and inexpensive!) program.

Something Funny!

Check out this link -- shows Time Management has been an issue for a while now. One of my clients forwarded to me, and I found this quite funny.
The cartoon comes from Dan Regan, a ShoeBox greeting card artist. He's got some other funny stuff on the ShoeBox blog (search under Author "Dan R".) Enjoy!
