Timely Tips December 2009:
Your Killer Keystroke Combo CHEAT SHEET

*  Plus a special webinar deal, a Taming E-mail preview opportunity, two great books, and more
December 2009
Greetings!

What an amazing year this has been. I personally feel blessed. Like many other small business owners, I came into 2009 with significant trepidation. What was going to happen to my bookings and client engagements? How would my scheduled book launch go? Would the bottom fall out?

Well, thanks to all of you, we not only survived, but we once again had our best year yet - including a successful #1 Amazon launch - followed by the most amazing fall I've seen since starting my business - THANKS! Apparently, people and companies are realizing that e-mail, Outlook, and office clutter management are great training investments and topical conference sessions in an economy where people are still "rightsizing". Thank you for that opportunity to serve.

As my first Thank You, I have completed my little "keystroke combo" cheat sheet for you below -- compiling my favorite keystroke combos from the last 5 years of Timely Tips (and of course, later this month, I'll also send out my Timely Tips compilation e-book update.)

HERE IT IS: Your "Killer Keystroke Combos" Cheat Sheet

This is the place to ALWAYS look to find your monthly Timely Tip.

I had to live up to my promise.  Here is that super handy 1-page cheat sheet of my favorite keystroke combo shortcuts:

http://www.RandallDean.com/Randy_Favorite_Keystroke_Combos.pdf

I wanted to make it a single page so you could print it and put right by your PC to reference, practice, and start saving TONS of time.  I've divided into "general", "web-browser", and "e-mail" keystroke tips.  Please feel free to share.  (And keep sending those combos that you are using that you've found helpful!)

SPECIAL Taming E-mail Gift Offer

Know someone that can really use the Taming E-mail strategies?  Think the book could be a big help to him or her? Here's a deal for you:

Go out today to order Taming the E-mail Beast on Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com, or our special TamingEmailBook.com web site (all of those cool bonuses are still active!)  Once you complete the order, e-mail me, with the expected delivery date of the book to your "giftee", and your "giftee's" e-mail address.

I will then send an e-mail timed to match their expected delivery date directly to that person, giving them a short personal encouragement to read the book, AND a link to a recent 60-minute Taming E-mail webinar replay I led.  Thus, they won't just get the book -- they'll get a 60-minute webinar that will kickstart their effort to regain their e-mail productivity and sanity.

What fun -- not only the book, but a personal e-mail note from the author, a webinar replay, and a GREAT New Year's resolution.  And you get all the credit!
What's Randy Reading?
I'm in the middle of two books right now -- one brand new, the other an "oldie but a goody".

The first -- Economic Secrets of the New Retirement Environment  by DaRayl Davis -- is a great read for anyone that has to consider retirement planning -- be that 40 years, 14 years, 4 years, or 4 weeks from now (or even four years ago!)  I was given a pre-launch copy to review (I get lots of these nowadays), and this one really cut through the clutter.

DaRayl gives an excellent historical perspective of the American stock market, retirement planning, and the current and likely future retirement environment (including likely government policy actions and economic realities).  He then gives you specific steps on how to prep yourself for your upcoming (or current) retirement in this increasingly tenuous economy, including discussion on the major demographic impacts of the baby boomers hitting retirement. He also details the mistakes you DO NOT want to make.  I'm making several current changes to my planning process RIGHT NOW after reading this book, and I'm starting to read it again to make sure I didn't miss anything (something I rarely do.)  I've got 25+ years to retirement, but this book should really help me and my family land softly, even with all of the craziness going on now (and likely in the future.)

Here is the link to get more information:  http://www.economicsecrets.com/launch/

The second is FISH:  A Remarkable Way to Boost Morale and Improve Results by Stephen Lundin, Ph.D., Harry Paul, and John Christensen.  This is a New York Times Bestseller from 2000, and I'm sure many of you have already read it.  A program attendee gave me a copy after one of my Managing Meetings sessions, and said I would just love it.  She was right!  It is a fun (and quick) read, all about how the World Famous Pike Street Fish Market turned a "drudgery" job into a "world famous" career -- and how that can help your company change morale and attitude for the positive.  Definitely worth a read, especially in this rough economy, where it can be easy to get down. This one will lift you back up!

Work with the Media?
If so, one final recommendation -- you have to check out Shawne Duperon's new product.  Shawne provided some awesome advice to me while I was doing my media blitz surrounding the Taming E-mail launch -- she's an Emmy-award-winning producer and media expert, and you can get the best of her and her product partner's knowledge, with this great offer

Have a wonderful holiday season!

I hope you all find the time to enjoy your holiday season, recharge those batteries, get some extra sleep and exercise, and spend time with those that matter most.  I'll be in touch one more time before the New Year with my First FIVE Years Timely Tips compilation document gift, and a reminder about my early January free Taming E-mail teleseminar with Kevin Levine

Until we talk again, Stay Timely!

Sincerely,

Randy Dean

Special Webinar Offer for Early 2010

Many of my programs are very well suited for not only live, in-person delivery, but also in live webinar delivery (think Taming the E-mail Beast, Optimizing Your Outlook, and Managing/Leading Great Staff/Team Meetings). These programs all fit a 75-120 minute webinar program format very well.

You know I love the travel to see all of you, but I also have kids that like to see their dad, and would like to balance out my travel a bit (of course, I will still travel to on-site events!)

Thus, I consulted with Carol Grainger, CMP, President of Creative Learning Links, LLC.  As many of you know, Carol helps me to arrange client presentations, training programs, and even webinars.  (She is a specialist in online training program delivery.)

We'd like to provide a special offer if you have an interest in one of my webinar-suitable training courses:  We'll do up to a 2-hour webinar program for up to 3 separate sites (log-ins) for $1,250 (additional log-ins extra).  That is $750 less than my out-of-state half-day training/speaking rate, and of course, there are no additional travel costs!  This rate is good through April 2009 for programs scheduled by January 29, 2009.

Additional Incentive:
I still have one or two days here in December that I could deliver a webinar -- if you call or e-mail Carol this week for a program yet this month, I'll knock an additional $250 off that rate.  This is a GREAT way to use up any leftover training & development dollars.

Contact Carol directly at 517-449-7832 or cgrainger@yourastec.com to discuss your webinar training ideas (as well as your in-person meeting and training program needs.)
