July 2009
MY SINCERE APOLOGIES -- IT LOOKS LIKE MURPHY DROPPED HIS LAW ON ME THIS MORNING!  I TESTED ALL OF THE LINKS BELOW LAST NIGHT, BUT IT LOOKS LIKE SOMETHING HAPPENED WHEN MY "PING" LINKS INTERACT WITH THE SEND-OUT LINKS IN CONSTANT CONTACT -- NUMEROUS 404 ERRORS CAME UP WITH THE PREVIOUS VERSION OF THIS E-MAIL I SENT JUST A BIT AGO.  PLEASE DELETE THAT MESSAGE AND USE THIS CORRECTED VERSION INSTEAD.  - RANDY DEAN

Greetings!

Welcome to the Timely Tips SPECIAL EDITION for July 2009.  It is a special edition because of all of the amazing media, blog site, and podcast follow up we've had from the launch of Taming the E-mail Beast.  That means this issue has a TON of bonuses for you, my Timely Tips subscribers!  (And by the way, WELCOME to all of my new subscribers -- we had a big jump in subscriptions due to these same launch activities the last couple of weeks -- see info on the free e-mail teleseminar for you to the right.)

If you missed the news on the results of the Amazon.com book launch on June 23 - 24 (let's just say it went pretty well), here's the note I sent a little over a week ago:  http://ping.fm/XJLAC.  We've kept up the info and order page for the book for now as we attempt to replicate our results with BarnesandNoble.com -- YES, you can still get those great bonuses: http://www.TamingEmailBook.com

And, if you are getting sick of all of this e-mail stuff, I have a web browser Timely Tip this month completely unrelated to e-mail -- another "killer keystroke combo".  (I actually picked it up while monitoring my Amazon rankings on June 23.)  Check it out below:
Some Quick Updates
Handy Web Browser Keystroke Combo
Taming E-mail Everywhere! (READ THIS!)
A Super-Handy Keystroke Combo for Your Web Browsing Activities
Have you ever been on a web page, and you wanted to see just a bit more information on your current screen without having to scroll down?  Or, the web page had text so small you wanted to see it in a bit larger format (a common need for all of us with "more experienced" eyeballs!)

Here is a super handy and QUICK keystroke combo you can use with both Internet Explorer and FireFox (and I would guess most other popular web browsers) that I used extensively when tracking our Amazon.com results on June 23.

"CTRL+" to make your web browser view LARGER.

"CTRL-" to make your web browser view SMALLER.

CTRL+ & CTRL- are keystroke combos for zooming in and out on your web browser current view.  Try it right now in an open page on your browser.  Did it just get larger (or smaller)?  Now, use the other combo, and you'll get back to the same view you just had.

I expect for many of you, this will become just one of those basic, standard web/computer skills you'll use for years and years now.  I've been using it extensively since seeing how quick and handy it is to view your web pages at a size and resolution that fits your needs.  It may also help you better prep a screen capture you want to take of a web page that you want to share with others.

Try it and let me know what you think.

Taming E-mail EVERYWHERE!
(Thus meaning some really nice bonuses, articles, & podcasts for you!)

When you put together an effort like the Taming E-mail Amazon launch a couple of weeks ago, you go in not really sure exactly what will happen, and also hoping some unexpected (but good) things do!  And that is exactly what happened with the launch -- especially on the part of members of the media and several of my bonus launch partners.  We had a lot of fun getting the word out all over the place! And we did get the word out ALL OVER THE PLACE.  Here are a few examples:

Mark Kellner, a lead technology and business reporter with the Washington Times (DC), wrote this article prominently featuring an interview with me, for last Monday's front page of the B section on "Outfoxing Your Inbox" -- a pretty funny article HERE.

Jan Bolick of BusinessClass, Inc. in Chapel Hill, NC asked me to do a really fun and dynamic 45-minute interview on my Taming E-mail strategies.  She did a great little follow up article on when it makes sense to actually talk to someone vs. sending an e-mail.  Get both HERE.

SelfGrowth.com based in Marlboro, NJ featured an "Expert Article" on making decisions with your e-mail that was bylined by me in their Home Entrepreneur Newsletter the week of the launch -- here's the link:  http://ping.fm/Mqq0S

CopperConferencing, based in Denver, CO, hosted me on a full 1-hour Taming E-mail Webinar, to showcase their proprietary webinar hosting technology.  Watch the full replay HERE.

Meryl Runion of SpeakStrong, Inc. of Cascade, CO, made a nice little blog post about ethical relationship marketing that also talked a bit about my new book (by the way, it looks like Meryl has some GREAT content!) -- check out the blog post (and then her site) here.

Dan Mulhern, Michigan's First Gentleman, put out a "tweet" to his extensive Twitter and blog network, in support of the launch.  Check out Mr. Mulhern's awesome site here:  http://www.danmulhern.com

Andrew Rondeau, publisher of the GreatManagement.org site and blog based in the U.K., posted this very detailed Q&A with me for his readers.  (Note that there are some GREAT blogs being posted here!!)

Thomas Groehl, lead publisher of the globally-followed productivity and work-life balance blog site based in Germany, ran this article bylined by me on E-mail Sanity as a Path for Work-Life Balance?  Check out this article, and then SERIOUSLY consider becoming a follower of this extremely valuable blog.  It really puts the entire "productivity" genre into the proper bigger-picture perspective of what it does for your LIFE.

All the way Down Under, they are doing some GREAT productivity enhancement work -- Thea Westra with ForwardSteps in East Victoria Park, Australia, posted a little blog posting about the book for her audience in her great ForwardSteps blog here (this is another blog that you want to check out more than just this blog post!)

And Lorraine Pirihi, of the ProductivityQueen.com in Melbourne, Australia, also prominently featured information on Taming the E-mail Beast with her readers.

Of course, I cannot forget Mike Webb with Sortis Publishing in Gilbert, Arizona.  Mike worked his tail off pulling all of this together two weeks ago -- it has been great working with Sortis so far!

Finally, I have to thank Mr. GTD himself, David Allen (Ojai, CA) for sending out a tweet to his half million Twitter followers about Taming E-mail on the day of the launch.

And I guarantee that I'm not mentioning all of the work and additional efforts that a number of my other launch partners did -- people including Tony Rubleski, Stan Billue, Corey Perlman, Shawne Duperon, Marilyn & Cliff Suttle, Dr. Meggin McIntosh, Dr. John Ryder, and SO MANY MORE.  (By the way, if I missed posting your blog site or article mention, PLEASE let me know -- I'll be sure to share in a future Timely Tips.)  Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!

Wow!  Whew!

What an amazing experience this has been. Thanks again to ALL of you.

Of course, for some of you, I've been talking about e-mail too much lately, so I'll try to share some other ideas and topics in upcoming issues of Timely Tips.  (Remember, I do great programs on Time Management, Ending Office Clutter, and Optimizing Your Outlook too!)  And, I'll be posting more info soon on some of the many conferences and open enrollment programs I'll be leading in your areas later this summer and this fall.  (Don't forget later this month I'll be at the Indiana Society of Association Executives Annual Conference in South Bend, the American Dental Association Executives Conference in Chicago, and leading an e-mail/office clutter program for Michigan State University HRD -- you can call them at 517-351-0183 to inquire about registration options for non-MSU staff.)  Plus, watch for me THIS FRIDAY MORNING on Fox 17 in Grand Rapids, MI, between 8:30 and 9:00 for a little TV appearance (no kidding!)

And call me soon if you have a need for some staff/member programming later this summer or this fall -- my calendar is booking up quickly!

Until we talk again, Stay Timely!

Sincerely,

Randy Dean

NO COST TELESEMINAR:
Tuesday, July 14, 2009
Over the last two weeks, several professional associations made announcements to their members of the opportunity to participate in a "no cost" teleseminar as part of our "launch activities" for Taming the E-mail Beast.  Now, if you read the information in this newsletter, you might find plenty of audio and text-based information you desire
on this topic via all of the additional media and blog-site coverage we secured in conjunction with the launch.

But I also know that many of you still like a "LIVE" program, so I've added two to my schedule in coming weeks.  The first takes place this upcoming TUESDAY, JULY 14th, at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

The program will be approximately 60 minutes in length (with some additional time for Q&A at the end), and if you'd like to participate, simply REPLY to this e-mail.  I'll add you to the call list, and get you the details.

There is no fee for the teleseminar, although you may have some long-distance charges to call in on the bridge line (use those extra cell minutes and/or your Skype account!)  This is also a great place to ask your specific e-mail questions of yours truly, especially for all of you Outlook users.

Also, we had originally scheduled another e-mail teleseminar for tomorrow, July 9, with Author Expert Diane Eble as the host, but we have postponed that call until July 30th, as Diane and I are going to do something special on that call -- in addition to talking about my e-mail strategies, Diane is also going to interview me on the process of doing an Amazon launch -- both the pros and cons of an effort like we did over the last couple of weeks.

So, if you have a book (or even an idea for a book!), you might want to "Save the Date" for July 30 and watch for final details soon on this valuable call.
