O∆K Wellness Tip:
Remembering Breakfast

Oats

Breakfast is the single most important meal of the day. It gives your body the energy it needs to carry you through the day's activities. To make breakfast truly worthwhile, avoid sugary or high-carb foods. Instead, opt for fruit, low-fat milk, whole wheat toast, oats or yogurt.

Dear O∆K Member,

As we begin a new academic year on three hundred plus campuses across the United States, I am reminded that the fall openings are viewed as renaissance. With the change of the seasons, new students are arriving for the first time and meeting new people; others are starting new classes and entering with new expectations; a new generation is upon us and we have much to look forward to within our great Society.

Exciting opportunities are abounding in Omicron Delta Kappa.  Our National President, Betsy Holloway, has identified three key areas of focus for the Society this coming year. They are Centennial planning, membership growth and fund raising.  These are all integral to the core of Omicron Delta Kappa as we move closer to the celebration of our centennial on December 3, 2014. New partnerships are on the horizon and are opening new doors for the Society, including USA Today College that you will read more about in this Keynote.

As we begin our second full year in O∆K Central, we are reminded that trains are built to move. O∆K is on the move as well serving our membership and our communities.

Have a productive and enjoyable year!

Sincerely,

Tom Signature

Cokie Roberts awarded
Laurel Crowned Circle Award
                 cokie

Omicron Delta Kappa's highest award, the Laurel Crowned Circle Award, was presented to Cokie Roberts, accomplished journalist, this summer.

The Laurel Crowned Circle Award is the single highest award that the Society can bestow upon a member. The award is presented to "an outstanding American who exemplifies the ideals of the Omicron Delta Kappa Society." Ms. Roberts becomes only the 21st member to receive the award.

As a Senior News Analyst for National Public Radio, she works as a political commentator for ABC News and publishes a weekly, syndicated newspaper column with her husband, Steve. Her work has earned her numerous awards, including a 1991 Emmy Award for her contributions to "Who is Ross Perot?"

Roberts' insightful perspective makes her contributions to the field invaluable.  Her work and success in a tumultuous time for both journalism and women is a true testament to leadership that personifies the O∆K ideals of leadership and the Laurel Crowned Circle Award.

The O∆K Foundation

A note from an O∆K campus and community leader:

"Dear O∆K Foundation, Thank you for the scholarship. I was grateful to be selected as a recipient. I am currently a Criminal Justice graduate student at Virginia Commonwealth University and interning at the Henrico Police Department. Thanks to your generosity I am one step closer to protecting and serving my community and country."
