Common Hope News

Greetings!

We have a special photo edition this month. Come along with us as Common Hope staff member Tom Stukel captures a visit to a family home lead by social worker Lesbia Marroquin. Next, enjoy images from the great photographers on the Best Buy Vision Team that visited Guatemala earlier this month. You'll also find a snapshot of María Angelina, a young girl who just celebrated her birthday and needs a sponsor. Hope you enjoy this window into the happenings of the past month.

Bringing school fun home

We've shared a number of stories with you about the work our education promoters are doing in our partner schools. We've also shared about students who have made big improvements in conduct, attendance, and grades.

Well, there's another supporting actor in that success: our social workers. In San Rafael, social workers have begun to bring reading activities and learning games on their home visits, to reinforce the lessons children learn during the school day.

Common Hope staff member Tom Stukel was in Guatemala earlier this month and had the chance to capture a social worker in action.  Come on a home visit with Lesbia, through his photos.

Best Buy team experience, in photos

We talked last month about the great art fundraiser put on by volunteers from Best Buy, in advance of their Vision Team trips. Two teams from Best Buy will be traveling to Guatemala this year. The first went down earlier this month and took many beautiful photos of their experience. Check out a sampling on our blog.

Maria Angelina
Maria Angelina just celebrated her 11th birthday.

María Angelina needs a sponsor

María Angelina just celebrated her 11th birthday last Thursday. The eldest of four children, she lives with her family in San Rafael, where she studies in the 3rd grade. Her father is a farmer, while her mother stays at home, and her parents have little education between them. María Angelina has likely already surpassed the education of her parents. Help her stay in school by becoming her sponsor -- a great birthday gift.

To sponsor her, please contact Jessie Szopinski via email, call (651) 917-0917, or sponsor her online.
