Welcome back, vendors! )
February 5, 2008

Greetings Vendors!

We here at Market HQ are excited to announce that not only will the Providence Open Market be back for a second season, but we've also been busy forming community partnerships, brainstorming new ideas and changing our format up a bit - all to bring you a market that is a destination event within the community of Providence.

Below are the highlights of changes that are being made and instructions on how to apply. As always please contact us if you have any questions.

New Location, New Dates, New Times!

LOCATION
Westminster Street is the new home of the Providence Open Market! Each week the City of Providence will close Westminster St. from Clemence St. to Eddy St. for our use. We are extremely excited about our new high profile location.

CALENDAR
This year we are having not one, but two Providence Open Markets - one in the spring and one in the fall! The Spring Market will kick off on Saturday May 31st! We will then be open every Saturday through June 28th. The Market will be closed for the months of July and August. The Fall Market will start up again on September 6th and run through the end of October.

HOURS
This new season also comes with new hours! The Spring Market will be open from 12-6 and the Fall Market be open from 12-5.

Partners, Farmers, Signage, Advertising and More

PARTNERS
The Rhode Island Foundation and The Cornish Group have partnered with The Providence Open Market. These partnerships come with many advantages the foremost being that they are bringing us into the Providence community. Other advantages include more advertising and helping to facilitate the substantial changes we are making this year.

SIGNAGE
This 2nd season will feature new signs! We are working on obtaining the necessary permits to allow for more prominent signage advertising the market.

FARMERS
The farmer's market is an important aspect to all of our Open Markets. We are working with local organizations to reach out to area farmers to ensure that each week a variety of produce, plants, and other edible goodies are available.

ADVERTISING
Like in Boston, we will be hanging up posters, passing out postcards, and advertising in local publications. We are also exploring the options of radio and tv advertising.

WEBSITE
Our website is back and it's been updated! Check out our new vendor guidelines, the vendor F.A.Q., and photos from last year.

How to apply, reserve space, and make a payment!

The Providence Open Market is a juried show. All applicants will be reviewed for acceptance. It is our goal to have a wide variety of products offered at the Market with little or no duplication.

We are currently accepting applications for the following types of vendors:

Artists and artisans - All artwork and crafts must be handmade using original designs. We are unable to accept vendors who design their product but have it fabricated overseas.
Antique and Collectable Dealers
Farmers and Prepared Food Vendors
Artisan Based Import Dealers - There are a very limited number of spaces open for import dealers whose business coincide with our vision of the Providence Open Market. For more information please contact us directly at info@providenceopenmarket.com.

The easiest way to apply is to use our online application. You must include 3 photos of your work for your application to be considered. If you are unable to use our online application we also accept submissions via snail mail. Online applicants will receive notification of acceptance within one week. Postal applicants will receive their notification within two weeks.

Reservations

Reserved spaces are the only way to have a guaranteed spot at the Providence Open Market. In order to reserve space you must sign up for a minimum of 3 days.

Please fill out the Online Application with the dates you would like to reserve. (Don't forget to send 3 images of your work to info@providenceopenmarket.com.)

Payment Guidelines

After acceptance into the Market, payment is due no later than 9 days prior to each event. To view payment deadlines for each date, please go to the Calendar Page on the website.

Last year we had some problems with vendors reserving space but not showing up. This is disrespectful both to your fellow vendors and us here at Market HQ. In many categories there are limited number of vendors accepted for each event - if we give you a day it means that we had to decline someone else's application. So what does this mean? Unfortunately we've had to change our policy regarding payment.

The first time you miss a payment there will be $25 surcharge. If you miss payment a 2nd time we will notify you via email that you will have the choice to either pay the entire balance of all dates reserved or to forfeit your remaining reserved dates and become an unreserved vendor. Unreserved vendors are not guaranteed space and are charged $75 a day.

Join our Street Team!

We are now in the process of forming our Providence Street Team! Aside from print ads, web and editorial, hitting the streets to get the word out about our Market is a big part of our successful marketing campaign. Being a street team member is a really great way to get more involved with both the market and the Providence community.

"What do I have to do to be a street team member" you ask? It's as easy as pie! You need to be able to:

- meet once a month (March through June) for a short meeting.
- distribute posters and postcards once a month.
- believe in our mission of supporting crafty independent local peeps.

And hey - in return you will get 3 free market days! Interested? E-mail your name, e-mail address and availability to info@providenceopenmarket.com.
