It's Chris from the Market. Countdown to Opening Weekend is 9 days away, so we thought an update was in the cards. Please take a moment to read this newsletter from top to bottom, so new and returning vendors can be well informed on all Market aspects. Whenever you are in doubt about a procedure or policy you can also check the "Vendor Info" page of the website. If you don't find what your looking for, we will be more than happy to answer your concerns via email or phone.

Payment Deadline

The payment deadline for May 12th and every Saturday at the Market is 9 days prior. So today is the deadline for Opening Day. But if you missed it ...don't panic, since it's our first Market we extended the deadline till Monday. You can pay for your reserved Saturdays by going to the Vendor Info page on website, or you can send a check to our new office location:

Temporary Sales Tax Permits

We received yet another phone call from our lovely tax representatives that the info we sent out was incorrect. So here is the final word on Temporary Sales Tax Permits- I promise!!

All Rhode Island residents who have existing sales tax numbers will not have to purchase a temporary sales tax permit at the Market. All we need from you is your current ID number when you arrive at the Market. We also will not be collecting your sales tax if you already have a permit.

Anyone who does not have a permit, resident and out-of-state, must purchase a permit from us at the Market. The fee is $10 and the form is quick and easy. This permit will be good for the entire 2007 season at the Providence Open Market. At the end of the day we will collect your 7% tax to be submitted RI tax department the following week.

Set-Up Emails

Set-up times are assigned in groups. An email with the specific time for each vendor for Opening Day, Sat. May 12th, will be sent on Monday, May 5th. For the rest of the season, set-up emails will be sent the Friday prior to each scheduled Market.

Please do not arrive before your scheduled set-up time, as that will only cause unnecessary traffic jams in the parking lot. No cars will be permitted to wait in the lot if they arrive early.

The three set-up times are : 9am, 930am & 10am

Booths must be staffed during operating hours, from 11 am to 5 pm. Vendors are not allowed to break down booths before 5 pm unless permission is first obtained from the Market Manager. Having cars drive down our aisles to pack up booth spaces is disruptive to our other vendors and possibly dangerous to our shoppers.

Tents and other set-up materials

The Market does NOT provide any set up materials for any of the Market dates. It is the sole responsibility of a vendor to provide appropriate coverage. I have assembled a list of affordable tents that are available at retailers around RI. It's probably best to call the store first to see if the tents are in stock. Good Luck!

Please give a lot of thought to the set-up of your 10x10 space. The more effort you put into making it attractive and visually pleasing, the greater number of customers you will attract to your booth. You are also responsible for cleaning up your space when the Market closes, including removal of garbage and the sweeping up of any debris. Anyone leaving trash behind will not be welcome to return. Props and thanks goes out to the hands and feet of our Providence Street Team members. They did an amazing job scouring the city for places to put postcards and posters. They distributed over 7,000 postcards to stores, cafes and restaurants in the Providence Metro area. Thanks to them, our postcards and posters are EVERYWHERE!

Oh...I almost forgot to add this, the Mayor may be coming down Saturday to do an official ribbon cutting! I will find out this Monday for sure if his schedule will allow.
