Shine!

Greetings!

Every artist has his favorite medium of expression. Some artists use water colors, while others use oil. Some sculptors use metal, while others use wood.

What is God's favorite medium of expression? People. We are created in God's image, and God loves to express his nature through our lives. The Living God uniquely expresses his infinite nature through you and me.

Or, look at it another way. Scripture teaches us that Jesus is the light of the world. Then, Jesus turns to his disciples and says, "You are the light of world." That means we have the opportunity, as followers of Jesus, to let his light shine through us daily and intentionally.

Our dark world needs to know Jesus, the light of the world. Jesus wants to shine through you and me in order to dispel the hopeless darkness that engulfs so many lives.

May the light of the world shine upon us today. Then, may we intentionally go into the world with words and deeds that illuminate the hope we have found in Jesus. It's time to shine!

Week of Prayer and Service for Children and Youth, August 19 - 25
Praying

Think about the impact of prayer according to Scripture. Daniel prayed according to God's purposes, and the Lord moved to answer his prayers (see Daniel 9:21-23).

According to Ezekiel 22:30-31, the Lord seeks one person to stand in the gap in order to swing the pendulum from judgment to mercy. Will you intercede and cry out?

In James 5:16-18, we read that "the prayer of a person living right with God is something powerful to be reckoned with" (MSG). Your prayers make a difference, too.

Jesus taught us to pray for the kingdom rule and reign of God in our lives and land (Matthew 6:10). Will you raise your voice for God's purposes in children and youth?

God is seeking you. Your prayers count. The Lord calls each of us to pray individually and corporately. Will you join in prayer for the children and youth of our region?

What would happen if Houston became as famous for whole and healthy children
as it is for NASA or the Medical Center?

According to For Houston's Kids, "statistics tell us that the number of children failing to achieve physical, mental, social-emotional, educational, and spiritual well-being remains unacceptable."

That vision of whole and healthy children and our current reality have stirred believers across Greater Houston to work together to mobilize the body of Christ to make a difference in the lives of children.

You can volunteer in any number of ways, like helping to fix meals for at-risk children at Study Camps. Contact Patti to find out more or to figure out where you can plug in with your interests and capacities. Will you show up?
