I recommend a fine new book on employee engagement: The Progress Principle by Teresa Anabile and Steven Kramer. Reading what they are learning and then going back to other studies on employee engagement, makes me shake my head in wonder. For instance, according to Towers Perrin: only highly engaged employees create good return on investment. Employees who are merely engaged are worth their pay, but that's it - no added value. And, people who are less-than-engaged only contribute 60 to 80 percent of their salary. Other surveys indicate that a high percentage of employees fall into the less-than-engaged categories. (The numbers vary from survey to survey, but most agree that we could do a lot better.)
So, that got me thinking and wondering why engagement was so hard. I followed my curiosity last week with a large city government who knew they needed a highly engaged workforce to implement some challenging new initiatives. The secret was that they knew what to do all along. Click here to read my blog post: The Secret of Employee Engagement is No Secret.
Influence. Action. Change!
For those of you who have been following the progress of the new Influence. Action. Change! program at the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland -- it is up and running. Last week, we met our class (after a couple of weeks of on-line activities). And what a great group of people. They came ready to learn with ideas and dreams that they want to turn into reality. In other words, they took the challenge of the title seriously and came expecting that we could help them improve their skills at getting people interested in their ideas. What a great challenge. Each person is now back at work trying things out with the assistance of one of our coaches. We meet again in November to close this intensicve training.
No dates set, but we will offer the program again in early 2012.
Here is a description of the program.
And I recorded a short video describing this program.
It's Time...Free Bonus Time
For purchasing the new edition of "Beyond the Wall of Resistance"

Many thanks to the readers of this newsletter who completed the survey on what bonuses you'd like people to receive for purchasing the new 2010 paperback edition of Beyond the Wall of Resistance. And you wanted something new which I had to create. And so, I did. It's a free double bonus offer and I am very excited it!
And perhaps this free resource can help you and your clients avoid the not-uncommon problem you see in this cartoon. (Wish I could say that the cartoon was an exaggeration, but I can see many of my clients shaking their heads as they read it.)
The Consultant's Guide to Beyond the Wall of Resistance
White Paper Podcast
The free Podcast and a white paper show consultants and coaches how to effectively use the ideas in my book with clients. I wrote the white paper, and accompanying Podcast, as a companion to the 2010 edition of Beyond the Wall of Resistance. That's what you asked for, so that's what you get when purchasing the book. No matter when you purchased the book, you are still eligible to get the Podcast and white paper free.
I hope you will take advantage of this bonus, I am a bit proud of this new Consultant's Guide. It's the closest thing to us working together while not being together.
