Hyundai and Change
Bob Lutz, former vice-chairman of General Motors said, "In terms of momentum, Hyundia is a bigger threat right now than anyone else." (WSJ 6/30/11)
You probably heard me say that change inside organizations can be difficult. I still think it still is, but Hyundai gives me hope. It wasn't all that long ago that Hyundai was a joke, and today it is "a threat." Something big is going on inside that company. Quality is generally high. People like to drive the cars. They look good. And they come with a 10-year warranty.
There is no magic in their success. They paid attention to what mattered, put their heads down, and did it. According to that same Wall Street Journal article, they quit trying to "out-Toyota Toyota" to become a leader and innovator. For instance design to market time for the new Elantra was a year less than their competitors could get new cars into showrooms. That's a big deal since people who buy smaller cars tend to trade them in more often. Of course that equals more potential buyers.
If you work in an organization where change is slow, difficult, and the prevailing attitude is that change will take a very long time, I urge you to read more about what Hyundai is doing. (Mike Ramsey and Evan Ramstad's fine article in The Wall Street Journal is good place to start.) I am not suggesting that others should copy them, but there is much to be learned from their transformation.
Influence. Action. Change!
Is it challenging for you to get your ideas heard and people to commit to them? Do your ideas often fail to be recognized as the winners you know them to be? Do you find it challenging to convince others to commit to a course of action? Do you sometimes fail to get the support you need from coworkers, bosses, those who report to you?
Beginning in September, my good friend, Jacquie Mclemore, and I will be teaching Influence. Action. Change! at the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland.
I hope you will take a look at the description of the program.
And I recorded a short video describing this program.
Except for a few workshops I will be conducting in Copenhagen this year, Influence. Action. Change! is the only public training program I have on my schedule.
Podcasts on Influence and Change
Leading up to the Influence. Action. Change! Program, we will be offering a series of free Podcasts on variousaspects of influence. I will give you details in the next issue.

Many thanks to the readers of this newsletter who completed the survey on what bonuses you'd like people to receive for purchasing the new 2010 paperback edition of Beyond the Wall of Resistance. And you wanted something new which I had to create. And so, I did. It's a free double bonus offer and I am very excited it!
And perhaps this free resource can help you and your clients avoid the not-uncommon problem you see in this cartoon. (Wish I could say that the cartoon was an exaggeration, but I can see many of my clients shaking their heads as they read it.)
The Consultant's Guide to Beyond the Wall of Resistance
White Paper Podcast
The free Podcast and a white paper show consultants and coaches how to effectively use the ideas in my book with clients. I wrote the white paper, and accompanying Podcast, as a companion to the 2010 edition of Beyond the Wall of Resistance. That's what you asked for, so that's what you get when purchasing the book. No matter when you purchased the book, you are still eligible to get the Podcast and white paper free.
I hope you will take advantage of this bonus, I am a bit proud of this new Consultant's Guide. It's the closest thing to us working together while not being together.
