                                      A New Change Equation
 April 21, 2011
Greetings!

New Change Equation

My buddy J.R, McGee told me about a simple and elegant change equation that he came up with and he is allowing me to share it with you.

The Pain of the Status Quo > Pain of Changing

Tthe pain of the current situation is greater that the effort and hassle required to change. I love it because it gets people to nod their heads and say, "That makes sense."

Many of you know David Gleicher's change equation (sometimes misattributed to Dick Beckhard).  One version reads SD x V x FS > R = C (Shared Dissatisfaction times Vision times First Steps is greater than Resistance and that leads to successful Change.) I love it and have used it for years, and I also like J.R.'s equation because it something I can just mention off-the-cuff in a meeting without making a big deal out of it. And it gets people's attention quickly.

You may know J.R.'s work thorugh the interview I conducted with him for the new version of Beyond the Wall of Resistance. He talks about sustaining change. Click here to access that Podcast (without even having to purchase the book). And click here to learn more about J.R. McGee's fine work.
