Rick Maurer's Tip #84

When Good Planning Meetings Go Bad

- When Good Planing Meetings Go Bad
- Influence. Action. Change!™

Recently, I was a guest speaker at a corporate planning meeting. By the time I arrived they had been meeting for about a day and half. When I walked in the room, it just felt different from most meetings. There was buzz in the air. People told me how excited they were about the chance to work on big issues. And, as it turns out, they weren't faking it. They truly were excited about the plans they were making.

But as Yogi Berra may have once said, "it felt like déjà vu all over again." I've been part of (even facilitated) planning meetings that seemed quite productive and then nothing happened. Back on the job, it was as if the meeting never had taken place.

If you are nodding your head in recognition, I just posted a 3-minute video about what to do after the big planning meeting. I hope you'll take a look. See the Current Tip video at the bottom of the home page.

Influence. Action. Change!™

You probably know that my work with change in organizations is based on what I learned at the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland almost twenty years ago. And, since 1996, I have taught at the Institute a few weeks every year. I love that place.

We have just designed a major new program that helps people working in organizations - executives, managers, coaches, consultants, individual contributors - build the support they need for their ideas and plans. Influence. Action. Change!(tm) combines online Podcasts and Webinars, group calls, one-on-one coaching, a couple of three-day sessions at the Gestalt Institute, and lots of support as people practice what they learn back on the job.

I am very excited about this program. If you need to be able to influence others in order to get things accomplished, I hope you will take a look at Influence. Action. Change! (tm). If you like what you see, please consider signing up and then passing along this information to friends and colleagues.

And if you have questions, give me a call or send me an e-mail. Working at the Institute is a labor of love for me and I never tire of talking about what we do. So it would be great to get to talk with you about what we are up to.

Some of you write and ask, "When will you be conducting public workshops?" And I mumble that I rarely do them. Well, here it is. I will be co-leading this program with my good friend, Jacquie McLemore. So, if you want to work together this year, this would be your chance.

The online phase of  Influence. Action. Change! (tm)  begins in May.
