Ministries
Notes from the Vestry:St. Peter's Vestry had another busy meeting this past Wednesday night discussing current activities at the parish as well as planning for 2011. One primary focus was the fall Stewardship effort, which is making very good progress. Many St. Peter's families have already made a commitment to fund the parish in 2011 and we are making progress towards our $400,000 pledge goal. If you haven't done so already, please consider making apledge onlineor by contacting any of us or our Stewardship Chair, Tom King. In addition to Stewardship, the Vestry discussed the early development of the 2011 parish budget, which is being led by our Treasurer Maria Kussmaul, as well as related staffing and ministry topics. We hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving and look forward to seeing you in church very soon!- St. Peter's Vestry (Ann Lombard, Anne Ruggles, Chris Phaneuf, Jim McDaniel, John Jacobs, Maria Kussmaul, Marshall Bartlett, Peggy Batchelder, Sarah Ardila, Tom Keery, and Tom King)
SECOND Annual Weston Winter Walk for Elder Homelessness
GET READY MIDDLE SCHOOLERS...the walk is on December 5th, 2010!
You have a chance to "Get Present" with the walk on Friday night,November 19, from 6:00 to 8:30pm! We are expanding this year to include - along with St Peter's, St Julia's and First Parish - young folks from Temple Beth Avodah in Newton!
We walk in winter to remind ourselves that others - without homes, living where they can and often on the street or in shelters - walk their days and nights through all weather and seasons. Hearth, Inc. recognizes that the elderly are distinctively vulnerable to life on the street, and their goal is to eradicate homelessness among that population. Our walk is to support the outreach effort of Hearth, Inc.
On Friday, November 19th, members of the Outreach team at Hearth will join us for dinner and an evening of fun activities and games that will bring the issue of elder homelessness into sharp focus. Following dinner and the activities we'll learn about designing your own fundraising website for the walk, hand out official "walk packets" and enjoy s'mores around a fire outside!
Flower Guild welcomes you!We invite you to participate in decorating St. Peter's for Christmas 2010. We also invite you to join us when we visit the Church of the Advent on Beacon Hill on Saturday, November 20 at 10 AM to watch their guild arrange flowers for November 21 for the high altar and the Lady Chapel (for the feast of Christ the King, the last Sunday before Advent). Church of the Advent's High Gothic interior calls for very different flowers from what we do in our Georgian colonial church, so this will be an interesting and inspiring visit. Advent Flower Guild director Tom Sopko says, "The choir is doing the Mozart Missa Brevis in C with orchestra as well as a plainsong Te Deum and a couple of motets, so you will get to hear a lot of music while we work.' Let me know if you would like to attend and if you can help this Christmas! Carolyn Ellis 781 899-5880
Diaper DepotDiaper Ministry: Please join us in support of Waltham's Christ Church "Diaper Ministry". Pick up a package or two and bring to St. Peter's any time. This is an ongoing ministry.

Please contact Kate MacDonald or Eileen Fava for more information on this very important ministry

Parish Life
MIDDLE SCHOOL LEARNING EVENT / PARTY A SMASH!! On Friday we had a wonderful gathering of 14 Middle School youth from First Parish and St Peter's, with dinner, games and activities in the parish hall, and s'mores and music outside, all in preparation of our Winter Walk for Elder Homelessness on Sunday December 5th!
Members of the Outreach team at Hearth, Inc. organized the activities, each of which helped enlighten us to the causes of homelessness, and the challenges that people who are homeless face in finding shelter or a home. This included an innovative simulation game for navigating the public shelter process.
Before finishing, we gathered again to talk about the walk itself, hand out registration forms, pledge forms and information on the walk to each participant, and learned how to build personalized web pages that let walkers educate their sponsors on homelessness, keep them updated on their progress, and even collect pledges online! The website is here: http://winterwalk.kintera.org. Have a visit and start to work on your page!
Please remember that the Weston Winter Walk is not only about raising money but about kids "getting present" with and raising others' awareness about elder homelessness. This website, Hearth Inc., and our handouts are all geared to this awareness building, and that's a vital part of the walk.
If you plan to walk, and weren't able to attend our Friday event, please see Pastor Kirkham, Peggy Batchelder, Joan Parrish or Margaret Randle about getting materials for the walk.
More later! Pastor Kirkham
