From the Rector's Desk...
AUTUMN
Autumn has been my favorite season for as long as I can
remember. Raised in Illinois on
the shores of Lake Michigan, my experience of autumn was a season of windy
days, early morning fog, and brilliant sunlight glinting through the leaves of
the trees as their color changed to autumnal shades of orange and red. The temperatures were comfortable for
daytime bike rides and touch football games and for a deeper sleep than the hot
summer weather typically permitted.
School began again (yes, I was one of those kids who got tired of summer
vacation and welcomed the return of school), offering new opportunities for
learning about the larger world around me as well as myself.
Best of all, autumn offered a time to lie in the grass in
the park as clouds raced across the lakeside sky and just think about
"things." Truth be told, I
probably learned in those times of what I would now call self-reflection at
least as much as I learned in other ways.
There is an old hymn whose opening words have always stuck
with me and which captures a theological way of honoring time spent just
thinking about "things" - Take time to be holy...
I hope you allow yourself to take time to be renewed this
autumn.
-- Stephen

Worship Drop-In Discussion Group We
welcome Joan Parrish as she leads us in a discussion of
four short stories based on a faith theme. The sessions will take
place on October 6, 13, 20 and 27 at
9:30 in the Bidwell Room, where we will talk about these reading
adventures. Joan is an experienced group leader and
currently teaches short story courses at the Regis LLARC program and
the Weston
COA. Copies of the stories will be available in the Office.
Questions? Pat Jensen, Shannon Hartmann. Please come to one or all
meetings.
Adult Bible Study Adult Bible Study meets each Sunday morning at 9 in the Bidwell Room. On October 24, the clergy will lead a discussion of Luke 19:1-10.
Audio Sermons - New! Online! Click here to listen to sermons recorded over the past several Sundays. Note: This will open a new webpage where the audio will play automatically.
Also, this Sermon Audio is also available on the Home Page of our website: www.stpetersweston.org.

Ministries
Weston-Wayland Interfaith Action Group Weston-Wayland Interfaith Action Group and Parmenter's Wayside Hospice present How Christianity, Judaism, Islam and the Hospice program deal with the end of life and its effects on those we love. First Session today 7-9 p.m. at the Islamic Center of Boston, 126 Boston Post Road, Wayland. Second Session: October 24, 7-9 p.m. at First Parish Church, Weston. Outreach Committee meets this Sunday in the Bidwell Room after the 10 a.m. service. All are invited to join this important ministry.
Outreach Committee to Meet The next meeting of the Outreach Committee will be held on Sunday, October 17th, after the 10am service. Stay tuned for the meeting location. Any questions, contackt Karen Montague. Thanks!
October 17th - Diaper Sunday Please join us in support of Waltham's Christ Church "Diaper
Ministry". Many people do not
realize that government programs like WIC or food stamps do not cover
diapers. Diapers can cost up to
.50 cents each depending upon size and where purchased. The average newborn uses up to 8 per
day. Many poor families do not
have the transportation needed to get to big box stores and instead, rely on
local drug stores with much higher prices. Diapers are required to be provided by parents for children
attending day care centers.
Without an adequate supply of diapers, a parent cannot go to work. If a family doesn't have clean diapers
to provide for their children, a child could spend days at a time in the same
dirty diaper. A CRYING BABY IS
MORE LIKELY TO BE A VICTIM OF CHILD ABUSE.
Christ Church distributes 30 diapers per month to low income
Waltham families. Not
surprisingly, the demand for diapers has been steadily increasing over the past
year since the inception of the program.
You can help in the following ways:
· Pick up a
package (or two) of diapers next time you are at the store and bring to DIAPER
SUNDAY on October 17th.
They are especially in need of larger sizes (4,5,6). Coincidentally that
is the Sunday that we have two very important baptisms to celebrate: Edmond
Kirkham and Sam Bartlett. Consider
it a baptismal gift on their behalf!
This will be a kick off to an on-going diaper collection.
· Volunteer
to help package diapers the 1st Saturday of every month from 10:00
AM - 12 Noon at Christ Church in Waltham.
· Participate
in the Amazon diaper registry that benefits the Diaper Depot at Christ Church.
On behalf of the Outreach Committee, thank you! For more information please contact Karen Montague
