From the Rector's Desk...
OF CONFIRMATION
In
the earliest years of the Christian movement (often referred to in
ancient texts as the people "Of the Way," being disciples who were
striving to live in the way of Jesus' teachings), what we today call
baptism and confirmation were a single event. Entire households were
frequently baptized into the family of the Church after a season of
preparation culminating in baptism as the sun rose on what we call
Easter Day. Children were baptized as part of the household as a matter
of course.
As
time went by, children of such households grew up and had their own
families, and presented their children to be baptized. Eventually, the
Christian movement had to decide whether to baptize infants or wait
until they were "of age" to make a decision.
Eventually,
many (but not all) Christian churches baptized children with adult
sponsors taking responsibility for their nurture in the faith, and at a
later time, those individuals were confirmed in the faith by affirming
the baptismal vows for themselves. This is the tradition which we
inherit in the Episcopal Church.
I am now forming our confirmation class, and all those in 8th
grade (or older youth who have not as yet been confirmed) are invited
to join. Attending the classes does not automatically mean that an
individual has decided to be confirmed; rather, it is a time to explore
what confirmation means and reach a decision.
Please speak to me or contact me by email or by phone so that the class schedule can be formed at mutually convenient times.

Worship Adult Bible Study Adult
Bible Study meets each Sunday morning
at 9 in the Bidwell Room. On October 3, the clergy will lead a discussion of
Luke 18:1-8.
St. Peter's held the "Blessing of the Backpacks" Sunday, September 19th!
We blessed all backpacks and
bookbags, and those who carried them, during the 10:00am service, as
the Church School entered the service at announcements. Students all
need to know that they enter the school year armed with the love and
support of their congregation behind them, and that their growth as loving and compassionate human beings is a vital part of any student's life.
Audio Sermons - New! Online! Click here to listen to sermons recorded over the past several Sundays. Note: This will open a new webpage where the audio will play automatically.
Also, this Sermon Audio is also available on the Home Page of our website: www.stpetersweston.org.
Prayer GroupThe Prayer Group meets in the Bidwell Room on Thursday afternoons at 4:00 pm and lasts about one hour. We read aloud the Order for Evening Prayer, Compline, or a Service for Worship in the Evening, and have 10-15 minutes of quiet reflection. Anyone who would like to join us is welcome. Call the Office for more information.
Prayers for and from the Community Your clergy pray for members of the parish community, and all whose lives fall particularly on our hearts, each day and - in particular - at our noonday gatherings during the week. Please let either of us know if we can include you in our confidential prayers. Stephen and Hall, 781 891 3200.
Drop-In Discussion Group We welcome Joan Parrish as she leads us in a discussion of
four short stories based on a faith theme. The sessions will take place on October 6, 13, 20 and 27 at
9:30 in the Bidwell Room, where we will talk about these reading adventures. Joan is an experienced group leader and
currently teaches short story courses at the Regis LLARC program and the Weston
COA. Copies of the stories will be available in the Office. Questions? Pat Jensen, Shannon Hartmann. Please come to one or all meetings.
