From the Rector's Desk...
CELEBRATION
As a new school year begins, I nearly always have an anxiety
dream. I am vested and ready to
process into church for the 10:00 AM service, and when I open to door to enter,
there is not a single person in the pews!
God being good, I've been spared ever having that experience
in real life. Once again this
year, I opened the door at St. Peter's and was greeted by parishioners young
and old. Some long-time members,
and some quite new to our parish community. Some visitors who happened to be visiting this Sunday and
whose impressions of who we are
will go with them when they return to their home. Each with a story, each with gifts, each with concerns and
cares, each with joys.
I am grateful for the privilege of serving as rector of this
remarkable parish community, and I feel a good spirit was at work among us at worship and
at the fellowship we enjoyed following the service. I am grateful for the strong lay leadership which is
striving to guide and engage us all to strengthen our parish life. I am grateful for each of you who
choose to bear witness to God's love as you live out your daily lives.
And I'm grateful that my anxiety dream is not the dream
which comes true!
-- Stephen

Blessing of the Backpacks!!!! This Sunday we will be doing our first (in a while, anyway) "Blessing of the Backpacks"! If your child has returned to school this fall, and wants to bring into her or his school year ahead the best that St Peter's community can offer from the pews, then have them bring their backpack - or whatever they carry to hold their books and papers for school! - to church on Sunday, September 19th!
We will bless all backpacks and book bags, and those who carry them, during the 10am service, as the Church School enters the service at announcements. Students all need to know that they enter the school year armed with the love and support of their congregation behind them, and that their growth as loving and compassionate human beings is a vital part of any student's life. Come along and be part of this great (and ancient) event!
