From the Vestry
In
the midst of a quiet summer, St. Peter's Vestry had another busy meeting
this past Tuesday. We were fortunate to be joined by the leaders of two
ministries which shape the worship life we experience each week - Carolyn
Ellis of the Flower Guild and Bill Symonds of the Lay Eucharistic Ministers ("LEM's")
and Lectors. Both ministries not only make our services happen each week,
but also offer the opportunity for members to experience a different and very
personal connection to our weekly worship life. Most importantly, both
ministries need new members! If you are interested, all are welcome. Feel
free to contact us here if you'd like more information (mbartlett@stpetersweston.org).
The
remainder of the meeting was largely focused on planning for the multitude of
parish activities beginning after Labor Day, including the start of the Church
School and Youth program year; the September Celebration on Sunday September 12th;
the welcoming of new members; the completion of several property initiatives; and
the beginning of the Stewardship season. As promised, we will also be
reporting back to the parish the results of the membership survey in the early
fall. In other words, there will be lots of life and activity at St. Peter's
and we invite you all to be involved! Stay tuned for more announcements
and mailings in the weeks ahead.
We
hope all of you enjoy the rest of the summer and look forward to seeing you in
church very soon!

St. Peter's Newcomers Community Join us and be a part of growing St. Peter's! The St. Peter's Newcomers Committee is looking for volunteers! Help us welcome new parishioners and inform them of all St. Peter's has to offer. Serve as a greeter at the 10 a.m. service on occasional Sundays. Please contact Kate MacDonald or Eileen Fava for more information on this very important ministry.
ST PETER'S CHURCH SCHOOL WANTS YOU...!
Our wonderful Church School exists because parishioners step forward
to get involved teaching, substituting, observing, or simply offering
support wherever they can, and without YOU we would not have this
important offering for our families!
Church School runs this year from September 12, 2010 to June 5,
2011, watch for details. At this point in the summer - and with the
start of school less than a month away - we need teachers for any
portion of the year (fall / winter / spring). PLEASE let Sarah Ardila,
Teresa Swanson or Pastor Kirkham know if you are able to help!
Remember: you can teach regularly, help out as a substitute, or
help only on monthly "Special
Sundays." To quote Outback, "No rules: just right." Whatever you are
interested in doing, we are eager to make it work. Church School is
such an important offering!
This year we will augment our on-line curriculum with questions like...
What in general is the church and what are its traditions? Who is God, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit? What is the Bible and what are some of its key stories? And finally, what is our relationship to all of this?
Are you willing to enact this part of your ministry? Please let us know, and know that we are grateful,
Hall Kirkham ( hkirkham@stpetersweston.org) STEPHEN MINISTRY TRAINING Have you wanted or felt
called to help others in crisis or during particular life challenges? Perhaps you would be interested in becoming a
Stephen Minister. Stephen Ministry is a
caring ministry where lay caregivers (called Stephen Ministers) provide
one-to-one Christian care to the bereaved, hospitalized, terminally ill,
separated, divorced, unemployed, relocated, and others facing a crisis or life
challenge. Stephen Ministry helps

need it. St Anne's in-the-Fields in
Lincoln will host a half day workshop from 9am to 1pm on Saturday, September 18th
to receive hands-on caring ministry training, and to learn more about Stephen
Ministry and how we at St Peter's can become involved! For more information on
Stephen Ministry, visit their website at http://www.stephenministries.org/ or for
more information on the training opportunity contact either Pastor Voysey or
Pastor Kirkham.

Parish Life
St. Peter's Anniversary Party - The fun Continues!!!! Let parishioners know about the fantastic auction item that you purchased at the St. Peter's Anniversary Party and have now redeemed!! Write up a short piece - it doesn't need more than 2 or 3 sentences but could be more elaborate if you wish - that describes the experience you had as you enjoyed your auction item. Photos are welcome as well! Submit your written piece by email. Attach any photos as jpeg files. Send your email to: thanks@stpetersweston.org as soon as you're able to put it together. Summer Coffee Hour - sign-up sheet is on the Parish Life bulletin board in the parish hall. Help needed to bring lemonade and cookies, set up, and clean up. Speak with Lynn Maruskin for further information.
Summer Volunteer Opportunity! There are two inner city ministries that can use extra volunteer help during the summer months: St. Francis House (homeless adult men and women, www.stfrancishouse.org) and Bridge Over Troubled Waters (homeless young people between the ages of 14-24, www.bridgeotw.org). These ministries benefit from Boston-area college students, and many of them have gone home for summer break. The ministries are now short staffed: St. Francis House needs volunteer help with clothing distribution and food preparation. Bridge needs volunteer tutors for the GED program. Peter Mitsakos, from St Demetrios Church, is a regular volunteer at both places and is offering to drive from Weston into Boston one weekday morning, probably Monday or Tuesday. He will leave Weston Center for Boston at 8:15am, and then leave Boston for Weston Center at 11:45am. SFH and Bridge are two blocks apart, and Peter parks at the Ritz, in between.
If you are interested in volunteering at one of these two places, please contact Peter directly at tpmitsakos@comcast.net, or 781-899-6583

Thank you / Pan-Mass Challenge 2010
What better message is there than this? "Jack" is a cancer survivor and volunteer I met at a water stop on the Cape after completing about 150 of 192 miles. | Submitted by John Marchiony For the 5th time, I rode the Pan-Mass Challenge August 7-8, powered by the strength of the people many of you shared with me. People who have shown great courage and grace while facing the unpredictability of Cancer.
There are many cancer survivors among us, and few have escaped having a loved one touched by it. I have so many stories that lift me up that it's challenging to describe the feelings of support, connection, and purpose.
With contributions from many of your friends and mine, we have raised nearly $50,000 together since 2006. $221 more dollars (as of Friday, August 21 at 9pm), will reach that plateau.
If you also would like to make a contribution to the Jimmy Fund, 100% of which will go directly to fund life-saving research, please click to contribute through my PMC Paceline.
With gratitude,
John Marchiony john@marchiony.com | 781-3333-8686
