From the Rector's Desk......
TRI-UNE The next-to-last verse of the Gospel according to Matthew reads, "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." It is virtually the only scriptural warrant for the doctrine of the Trinity - One God experienced by human beings in three forms distinct enough to be named. Based upon the Bible alone, that is not a very strong case. However, our Christian tradition reflects wisdom gained by the experience of followers of Jesus Christ over the centuries and appeals to our ability to reflect and to reason as well as the wisdom which emerges from the study of the Scriptures.
Sometimes, the Christian community's thought can be dominated by the belief that God is primarily the Creator, the one who "started" the world and then left it pretty much on its own. Many of the founders of our nation held this view, known to scholars as "Deism." Sometimes, the Christian community raises up the incarnation of God in Christ so high that it is difficult to discern any humanity in Jesus. Sometimes, the Christian community is so intent upon God as the Spirited breath which blows we know not where that we lose sight of the creative and the redemptive nature of God.
The doctrine of the Trinity is our feeble but necessary attempt to say that God is, paradoxically, all of these characteristics in unique relationship with one another.
As is the case with our own spiritual growth (albeit in a very small way compared with the nature of God), identity is about real relationships which grow and deepen over time.
As we celebrate Trinity Sunday this week, I encourage us to give thanks not for a doctrinal claim, but rather for the relationships with one another which are deepened and sustained by the God who creates, redeems and sustains in ways which no words can ever capture.

Church School To Parents and non-Parent Adults of St Peter's Church:
Our last Sunday School class of the term is June 14th. The next Sunday School term will begin on Sept 13th, and we will continue with the format we have had this Spring: class begins at 9:45 and the children and teachers enter the service at approximately 10:30.
We would LOVE to expand our wonderful group of willing and able Sunday School teachers! You do NOT have to be a parent to be a teacher, and this is a WONDERFUL way to serve our community!
All you need is a little imagination, a smile, and the rest is easy.... PLUS the kids are TERRIFIC and eager to learn!
The curriculum is on-line, easy to access, and lessons are simple to follow. Ideally we will have two teachers per class so that there is flexibility with your schedule!
It is fun, easy and rewarding, and the MORE volunteers we can get the EASIER and MORE flexible scheduling can be!

B-SAFE
Program, St. Martins/St Augustine, July 20-24
This will be our
third year of serving as a partner church in the "Bishop's Summer Academic Fun
Enrichment Program". This is a larger effort of the Episcopal Diocese to serve
over 450 children at 6 sites in the Boston area in a five week summer day camp.
The B-SAFE program provides
academic enrichment, sports, field trips, good food, community, and a safe place
for kids, plus it is one of the largest provider of jobs for older teens, who
are trained as counselors for the day camps.
Partner churches provide a
week
of food (lunch and snack) at one site plus organize and fund a Friday field
trip. St. Mart/St Aug will
provide a summer home for 65 elementary school students, as well as jobs for 10
counselors. Monday - Thursday we deliver and serve lunch, and Friday we will
sponsor a field trip to Lands Sake, the Weston pool, and cook out for the kids.
PLEASE CONSIDER GIVING
US A HAND! IT ONLY TAKES A FEW HOURS
TO MAKE A REAL DIFFERENCE IN THE LIFE OF A CHILD! You can help in many ways:
shop, prepare a lunch or snack (evening or AM), or help deliver the food.
And, if you
cannot help that week, we need 2 to 3 volunteers to pick up a week's breakfast
on a Thursday morning (10:00 AM) at a nearby Costco and deliver it.
And, if you
can't participate, but want to support the program, $$ donations are much
appreciated!!!

St. Peter's Church, Weston, is
pleased to invite the public to an organ recital by St. Peter's
Music Director Andrew Shenton playing the fantastic 1875 E. & G.G. Hook &
Hastings Organ at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Boston's
historic South End. This organ, opus 801,
is the
largest extant organ built by the Hook and Hastings firm of Weston, MA. This is a special recital for
the Feast of Corpus
Christi.Founded in
Boston in 1827, Hook and Hastings moved to Weston,
Massachusetts in 1875. In its 108 years of operation, E. and
G.G. Hook and Hastings produced and estimated 2,614 organs ranging
is size from eight to eighty feet for locations throughout the
U.S. These included organs for First Parish and St.
Peter's Church in Weston, Weston College, Wellesley College, the
College of Music in Wellesley, and the Unitarian Church in
Wellesley Hills. Hook and Hastings was
the largest industry in Weston and produced an organ a week in
its huge, wooden factory on Viles Street, just north of the railroad
tracts. The company closed in 1935, a victim of the Depression
and the building was demolished in 1936. The company's
organs ranged in size from eight to eighty feet and were shipped all
over the country.
