From the Rector......

"I was sick and you visited me..."

When I was first ordained, it was a commonplace to receive  phone calls from an area hospitals to inform me that a parishioner had been admitted.  Some hospitals had a volunteer assigned to this task on a regular basis.  Others provided a box of file cards (later a computer-generated list) of patients in the hospital by religion. It was remarkably simple to plan timely hospital calls as a result.
Those days are now long gone,  but I suspect that many people who are asked if they wish a religious affiliation indicated on their records when they arrive at a hospital simply assume that their pastor will be contacted.  For a variety of reasons, a parishioner wishing to be visited in the hospital is required to be specific and directive.
If you want a pastoral visit by clergy and/or lay visitors when you are in the hospital, please either:

Let the admission staff know when you arrive
or
Let your nurse know
or
Ask the hospital chaplain

Ask them to call St. Peter's Church, Weston, and if you recall it at the time, the number
is 781-891-3200 (same as the church street address - 320 - with an additional zero) or
the rectory number 781-899-3071.  If you don't recall the numbers, both numbers are listed.
Your clergy and parish family want to visit you, and thanks in advance for helping us to visit when it means the most.

-- Stephen

Bach Cantata BWV 131 with Choir and Collegium at St. Peter's

St. Peter's is pleased to offer a complete performance of J.S. Bach's famous "Cantata BWV 131:Aus der Tiefe rufe ich, Herr, zu dir (From the deep, Lord, I Cried to Thee)" Sunday, March 29. The cantata will be performed by the semi-professional choir and collegium (chamber orchestra) during the 10:00 a.m. worship service. There will be an encore presentation at 11:30 a.m. All are invited to attend both the service and the subsequent performance.
The cantata is one of J.S.Bach's most beautiful and enduring pieces. It is scored for SATB soloists, chorus and orchestra and sets Psalm 130 along with part of Psalm 13 and the chorale Herr Jesu Christ, du höchstes Gut. The soloists will be Meredeth Kelly, soprano; Rebecca Saslow, alto; Evan Biela, tenor; and Jonathan Cole, bass. The ensemble will be directed by Andrew Shenton, Music Director at St. Peter's.

Director Andrew Shenton was born in England. His first professional music training was at The Royal College of Music in London, where he studied under a scholarship from The Royal College of Organists. While at the RCM he read for a B.Mus. degree at London University and was an organ scholar at St. Paul's Cathedral. In 1991 Andrew Shenton moved to the US to study for a Master's degree at the Institute for Sacred Music, Worship and the Arts at Yale University and then for a Ph.D. in musicology at Harvard University. He currently serves on the faculty of Boston University.
The cantata will be performed twice (at 10:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.) so that people will be able to hear it both liturgically as part of the Passion Sunday liturgy and then again in its entiretyafter the service. For further details call the church office at 781-891-3200. St. Peter's music related events continue to welcome many throughout the Weston community and beyond.
