Pastoral Care
Pastoral
care of parishioners - by both fellow parishioners and by clergy - is
of the highest priority. Several parishioners have had critical medical
needs in the past few weeks, and it is very helpful to the clergy for
others to tell us when they know there is a need. In the rush of
addressing a crisis, family members don't always think to call the
church office and hospitals no longer make calls informing us of
admissions. Please, let us know of needs - even if you think we already
know! - so we can respond as promptly as possible! To contact Stephen at any time, please call 781-899-3071 or email to

From the Rector's Desk
CALLED
For many of us, this is a week
when we are called to many tasks as the academic year begins once again.
It is not just that schools reopen. It is more like a "chain
reaction" of returning from a relatively relaxed summer pace into
work, family and personal tasks.
St. Peter's is calling upon
you in this sense to discern how you might wish to respond to God's
love in the life of this parish. Education, worship, prayer, outreach,
fellowship, and on and on. I do hope you will want to engage in
this parish family as deeply as you possibly can.
As we do so, however, I
hope we do not lose sight of the ultimate purpose of our calling -
at church and in all our life's choices. The prophet Micah,
fretting about what God most wanted from us, discerned that what the
Lord requires of us is "to do justice, and to love kindness, and to
walk humbly with [our] God." (Micah 6:8). In the New Testament,
Matthew records Jesus' response when asked to name the greatest of
all the laws as being, "'You shall love the Lord your God with all
your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.'
This the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like
it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' On these two
commandments hang all the law and the prophets." (Matthew 22:37-40)
May this be a season of renewal
and growth for us all. Stephen

Announcments Welcome New Staff Members!
We welcome two new staff members as
we begin the new academic year:
Beverly Scheibert
is now our Interim Music Director. Ms. Scheibert has served as
music director at Christ Church, Cambridge and at St. Peter's Church,
Westborough, and brings a wide variety of musical leadership experiences
with her. Beverly will be with us during our search process for
a permanent appointment. The Adult Choir returns Sunday, September
7th and the first choir rehearsal is this Thursday, September
4th at 7:30 PM in the music room (third floor of the parish
hall). All interested volunteer singers are welcome!
Elizabeth (Beth) Graham
is now our Church School Coordinator. Beth brings a lifetime of
church experience as the daughter of an Episcopal priest and her professional
abilities as an MSW to this responsibility. She will be a core
teacher for the middle school class and provide needed support for our
outstanding volunteer teaching teams.
Confirmation Class is now forming for those to be confirmed in the spring of 2009.
All 8th graders are invited to join the confirmation class.

St. Peter's Church School Registration; Nursery Information
September 7th begins a new Church School year, and we have three
beautiful new classrooms in the parish hall! To help us determine
where we should locate each class, we need some basic information from
Church School parents. Please let us know if your child/children will
attend (even if sporadically) church school or the nursery.
Simply respond to Peggy Batchelder at rdbatchelder@comcast.net with the following three items:
> child's name
> grade (or age/birthday if not yet in kindergarten)
> preferred email (if different from the one used to respond to this message)
Note: This year we will have two nursery rooms: one for children
2 and under, and one for 3 and 4 year olds. The 3 and 4 year olds will
have the choice of staying in the nursery during the entire worship
service, or joining their parents in church at the start of the service
then moving downstairs when the church school children go to their
classrooms after Communion.

Music This Week; Come Sing! Music
on September 7th. We hope and plan to present Martin Shaw's timeless and
stirring anthem, "With a Voice of Singing," at the 10:00 am service.
Adding to the festivities will be a marvelous trumpeter, Fred Sienkiewicz,
who will accompany the hymn singing and play works by Benedetto Marcello
and William Boyce. A contrasting mood will be set by Joseph Gelineau's
lovely, mystical setting of text from the great theologian Dietrich
Bonhoeffer.
New singers are most welcome. St. Peter's must have many members who at some point
have sung in a choir, or in a school, university, or community chorus -
or who have had some other form of musical experience. Dust off your
talents and join us! All ages are welcome, from high school upward. Please see me
after the service or give me a call at 617-739-1751.
Many thanks,
Beverly Scheibert

Youth Discernment; Rock St. Peter's; Getting Acquainted from Hall Kirkham
TO PARENTS AND TEENS!
I am convening a group for Youth
Ministry Discernment that will spend important time during the next
year discovering what it is God wants this parish to provide its junior
and senior High School folks. Any parents and teens who are interested
in this kind of ministry are invited to join us at an inaugural meeting
(with food) on one of the following days:
- Sunday, September 14th
(after the 10am service, we'll have lunch)
- Thursday, September 18th
(beginning at 7:00pm, we'll have supper)
- Tuesday, September 23rd
(beginning at 7:00pm, we'll have supper)
Please let me know which date, if any,
works best, and there is no obligation to go any further than that! hkirkham@stpetersweston.org
To THOSE who ROCK ST PETERS, LISTEN
UP (this means you, teens)!
I am inviting you all to come to a
ST PETER'S ROCKS! WESTON party I'm throwing in the Parish Hall one
of these days from 6pm to 8pm , and I want to know which date works!
- Friday, September 19th
- Saturday, September 27th
- Sunday, September 28th
Send me an email (please) (hkirkham@stpetersweston.org), or grab me after services and tell me if
you'll be there, or tell me if you'd be there if you could and is
there a better day!! We'll have pizza, music, a game or two,
and we will talk about what kinds of things you and I have in mind to
make St Peter's rock this year. Together we can create something
meaningful, in synch with who you are and what you're about, and in
synch with God and what we together think God is about.
TO THE CONGREGATION AS A WHOLE
My dedication to helping St Peter's
Church meet the pastoral needs of its congregation is great, and will
grow I am sure as I get to know the members of this exceptional family,
wherever they are physically, theologically or spiritually. I
am here at the church regularly Sunday through Thursday, and can come
out to meet with you then or at a time that we are able to plan together.
