Summer hours: The church office is opened  Tuesday - Friday, 9-3. Stephen is also available on Monday's at the Rectory office (781-899-3071) or by email (sovoysey@comcast.net).

Building Work: There are several projects planned around the buildings this summer and fall, especially the freshening and upgrading of church school space on the lower level of the parish hall. Several parishioners are at work with our building manager, Harry Goodale, and appropriate subcontractors to do the needed work as efficiently and effectively as possible. Apologies in advance for any inconveniences you may encounter while this work is being done.

Pastoral Care:  Pastoral care of parishioners - by both fellow parishioners and by clergy - is of the highest priority. Several parishioners have had critical medical needs in the past few weeks, and it is very helpful to the clergy for others to tell us when they know there is a need. In the rush of addressing a crisis, family members don't always think to call the church office and hospitals no longer make calls informing us of admissions. Please, let us know of needs - even if you think we already know! - so we can respond as promptly as possible!

On Sunday, July 20, St. Peter's welcomed The Rev. Hall Kirkham as the new Assistant Rector.  This is an exciting moment in our parish life, and I've asked Hall to share his thoughts.

Stephen

Greetings in the love, peace and power of the One who creates, redeems and sustains us all.

Stephen gave me the chance to preach at services this past Sunday, which was my first worship at a place I will call my spiritual home for the foreseeable future, my first clerical functioning at my spiritual home, and my first chance to preach as an ordained person!

I spoke about the themes I saw in our readings, primarily the reminder Jesus gives us that it is God - the first and the last, gracious and full of compassion - who is in charge: God is our rock and opens to us the promise of the Kingdom through Christ and the Holy Spirit, and it is God who determines whether we have worked and walked in our time on this earth towards its birthing or away from it.

We have plenty to do in following Jesus' message of love, forgiveness and humility without having to take on the impossible task of judgment and punishment, and yet we tempt ourselves constantly into those very dangerous roles.  Scripture simplifies it for us, asking that we do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with God, and following this, if we are really trying, gives us little capacity to do much else. Leave the rest to the Expert.

And God is doing an exciting thing that we at St Peter's can lay claim to through the work we will be about this year, in our liturgical and musical life together, in our programs for younger folks and adults, our outreach, and in the growth of our own faith and the faith of new members.  St Paul reminds us that something is afoot with Christ's resurrection, and it's happening!  We are in an amazing place - a place of God's time - that is both already and not yet, and we are the hands and feet that are nothing less than co-creators with God.

May God bless each of you this summer, enable safe journeys and restful moments, and I look forward with eager anticipation to meeting each of you as you return home!

July 18

This morning Claudia shared the children's sad circumstances that lead them to el hogar. These stories touched all our hearts. After, we visited the farm and saw how the kids managed the animals and tended the plants. Next, we went back to the technical school to see the kids give presentations about the local indigineous tribes. We tried many foods, drinks and some even got to dance. Finally, we had a nice dinner out with the group and the leaders of El Hogar. We are looking forward to spending one last day with the kids.

As you know, St. Peter's sponsors a student -- Carlos Eduardo Argena -- at the farm school. Yesterday, we took a trip to the farm where we saw Carlos, gave hime some presents and took a group picture with him. He wrote us a note which is below . . .

"Gracias por su ayuda. Para mi un és un lo mejor no les prometo nada pero voy a luchar por sequir adelante. Gracias por todo."

Translated, Carlos wrote;

"Thank you for your help. For me, it is best that I promise nothing but that I will fight to continue to move forward. Thanks for everything."

July 19
t was about three in the morning when the roosters began to crow. I laid awake in my bed waiting to depart at five thirty. I was excited to head home but i know i shall miss the children alot.
It was a long drive especially when crammed in a stuffy van. We now wait at the san pedro sula airport, a long day of travel awaits us...

Pan Mass Challenge 2008 - Riding to Honor Cancer Surivivors and Angels
Marchiony & Rodgers' Team Avanti to Ride 163 Miles August 2-3
Add your Survivors and Angels to the Team

Last year, Rob Rodgers and I rode the Pan Mass Challenge as "Team Avanti" while carrying the names and stories of more than 120 family members, friends, and friends of friends who have battled cancer. They were the survivors, "thrivers," and angels who powered us. We thought of them and read thoughts that had been shared as we rode.

This year, Team Avanti again will ride 163 miles from Wellesley to Provincetown on August 2-3.  Rob Mosher and Matt Schulman -- both Westonians -- are joining us.

We'd like to ride with the thoughts and memories of your family and friends who have battled cancer. Please share names, a thought or two, and a picture if you have one by email to john@marchiony.com or rob-rodgers@comcast.net.  With your permission, we'll add your names and stories to the slide show and honor roll on our PMC Web Site, (www.teamavanti.googlepages.com) -- please take a look at the site or the slideshow through the picture (of John's Mom & Helga) below.

We know the names of some we are riding to honor. My mom and her best friend Helga lost their battles with cancer. Rob's mother, Sue, and father- in-law Bob beat cancer, but his dear friend Ev did not. We've contemplated the challenges faced by friends and family of Meg Pierce, Bill Symonds, Carolyn Ellis, John Bulbrook, Anne Ruggles, John Sallay, Maggie Tyler, Sally Malconian, Judy Campos, Bill Poduska, Mary King, Sarah & Ned Rossiter, and Ted Rhoads

We will be riding to honor their friends, and all the people you share with us.  If you can do that, FANTASTIC! Thank you! The more the better.

If you have a moment, we'd love to share with you the moving experience that is the PMC and hear about the people in your life who we could think of while we ride. Please call either of us anytime, or let us know a good time to reach you.

Please be a part of our ride in any way that works for you.
