SUMMER PROJECTS AT ST. PETER'S
Although the pace of life in the summer is quiet (especially during this past week of high heat and humidity), there are several active projects in process as we prepare for the resumption of  greater program life in September.  They include:

Welcome Hall Kirkham!
The Rev. Hall Kirkham begins as Assistant Rector this Sunday, July 20th.  Hall was ordained deacon on June 7th and has been taking some time this summer for a family reunion and volunteer work with the B-SAFE summer youth program in Boston.  As a deacon during the next six months, he will assist at the Sunday liturgy by reading the gospel and setting the altar and begin to take a regular share in the preaching rotation of the parish.  In January, Hall will be ordained to the priesthood, at which time he becomes authorized to preside at the Eucharist.  Please welcome him when you see him at the church or in the community.  Hall, his wife Marjorie and daughter Victoria reside in Cambridge.  We welcome them to our parish family life.

Building Work
There are several projects planned around the buildings this summer and fall, especially the freshening and upgrading of church school space on the lower level of the parish hall.  Several parishioners are at work with our building manager, Harry Goodale, and appropriate subcontractors to do the needed work as efficiently and effectively as possible.  Apologies in advance for any inconveniences you may encounter while this work is being done.

Welcoming Young Families
We are steadily welcoming new young families as visitors and as emerging parish members and leaders.   Even in the midst of the Independence Day holiday weekend, a new household came to our services and another family met briefly with me to plan for baptism.  We will be working to make the Sunday morning experience as welcoming as possible for new families this fall, while providing the sustaining ministry in which we all seek to share.

Pastoral Care
Pastoral care of parishioners - by both fellow parishioners and by clergy - is of the highest priority.  Several parishioners have had critical medical needs in the past few weeks, and it is very helpful to me for others to tell me when they know there is a need.  In the rush of addressing a crisis, family members don't always think to call the church office and hospitals no longer make calls informing us of admissions.  Please, let me know of needs - even if you think I already know! - so I can respond as promptly as possible!

Summer hours: The church office is opened  Tuesday - Friday, 9-3. Stephen is also available on Monday's at the Rectory office (781-899-3071) or by email (sovoysey@comcast.net).

Summer Worship
Summer services are held at 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM all year 'round at St. Peter's.  The 8:00 AM service uses Rite II of the Book of Common Prayer, and gathers in the chapel.  During July and August, the 10:00 AM services is a celebration of Holy Communion with congregational hymns and utilizes the "summer" altar which is placed at the top of the choir steps.  The summer service booklet makes use of two prayers from the prayer book of the Anglican Church in New Zealand - the prayer of consecration and the post-communion prayer.  When you are away, consider finding a nearby church of a Sunday morning, taking the opportunity to give thanks for God's many gifts we so easily take for granted.  When you are in Weston of a Sunday, come join us for a relaxed Sunday service.

News from El Hogar

Monday, 14 July

Workday One:  A Seven A.M. morning for devotional, a breakfast of
tortillas, eggs and beans, a quick rundown of the schedule for the week
and what we would be doing to help (manual labor-wise), and then we got
to work.  The work was - well, very manual - wood plank hauling and
de-nailing and cement block moving - but to see the kids of El Hogar
going about their day and to play with them after dinner adds lots of
meaning.  A sudden rain sent everyone scattering to continue playtime
inside together which was a great way to end the day.

el hogar
Today we were able to visit the technical school where the older boys
attend classes.  We also were able to watch the boys rehearse for a
celebration called Limpira Day, Honduras' independence day.  We have all
been enjoying our time with the boys and our trip so far.
--Alyssa Iacono

Wednesday, 16 July

Today we began are day by going to devotion, after we went to work. In the afternoon we got to attend a singing competiton involing seven children from El Hogar. We spent some of our night running around and playing with the boys, then later a few of us went to see where the girls live. It was another great day.

Are There More Opinions Out There?

Last week, we asked "What other features should we incorporate into the eKeys?" and then listed  four ideas. We received several thoughtful inputs by email to thanks@stpetersweston.org and we would be pleased to hear from you, as well.

Please consider the suggestions below for enhancements for the newsletter and share your preferences and recommendations.

1. "My Turn," in which parishioners share reactions, thouughts, and recommendations based on the thoughts and feelings they had in response to the week's readings, sermon, or interactions with other parishioners during the week.
(Note: early feedback does not support this idea.)
2. "Where's the Spirit," in which parishioners share how the Holy Spirit has been present in their lives recently.
(Note: early feedback supports this.)
3. "Why I Do What I Do," in which parishioners share why they are involved in particular ministries at St. Peter's.
(Note: early feedback strongly supports this.)
4. And how do you like the image at the top with tulips????
(Note: early positive feedback outnumbers requests for traditional imagery, with a request for "more summery images."  How are the blueberries :)
We'll plan to share the ideas we receive and solicit ongoing feedback (maybe even through a survey when there's "critical mass.")

If any of the preceeding ideas struck you as interesting, please send an email to thanks@stpetersweston.org (which goes to the entire eKeys publishing team). That would also confirm that someone is reading the newsletter.
