SUMMER PROJECTS AT ST. PETER'SAlthough the pace of life in the summer is quiet (especially during this past week of high heat and humidity), there are several active projects in process as we prepare for the resumption of greater program life in September. They include:
Welcome Hall Kirkham! The Rev. Hall Kirkham begins as Assistant Rector on Sunday, July 20th. Hall was ordained deacon on June 7th and has been taking some time this summer for a family reunion and volunteer work with the B-SAFE summer youth program in Boston. As a deacon during the next six months, he will assist at the Sunday liturgy by reading the gospel and setting the altar and begin to take a regular share in the preaching rotation of the parish. In January, Hall will be ordained to the priesthood, at which time he becomes authorized to preside at the Eucharist. Please welcome him when you see him at the church or in the community. Hall, his wife Marjorie and daughter Victoria reside in Cambridge. We welcome them to our parish family life.
Building WorkThere are several projects planned around the buildings this summer and fall, especially the freshening and upgrading of church school space on the lower level of the parish hall. Several parishioners are at work with our building manager, Harry Goodale, and appropriate subcontractors to do the needed work as efficiently and effectively as possible. Apologies in advance for any inconveniences you may encounter while this work is being done.
Welcoming Young FamiliesWe are steadily welcoming new young families as visitors and as emerging parish members and leaders. Even in the midst of the Independence Day holiday weekend, a new household came to our services and another family met briefly with me to plan for baptism. We will be working to make the Sunday morning experience as welcoming as possible for new families this fall, while providing the sustaining ministry in which we all seek to share.
Pastoral CarePastoral care of parishioners - by both fellow parishioners and by clergy - is of the highest priority. Several parishioners have had critical medical needs in the past few weeks, and it is very helpful to me for others to tell me when they know there is a need. In the rush of addressing a crisis, family members don't always think to call the church office and hospitals no longer make calls informing us of admissions. Please, let me know of needs - even if you think I already know! - so I can respond as promptly as possible!
