TRANSITIONS

It is cliché to observe that the only constant in life is change, but it is nevertheless a true and important observation.  This time of year, the reality of change is often a dominant theme in our schedules.  Weddings, baptisms, confirmations, graduations and the like are typically observed with both formal ceremonies and relaxed times of celebration and fellowship.  We find ourselves reflecting on what has occurred in our lives to bring us to these special occasions, and looking forward with a mixture of anticipation and anxiety towards what might lie ahead. 

Our spiritual journey (although we might not always choose to call it that) is not so different.  When we gather for worship, we engage in a shared celebration of what has informed and supported the people of faith over the centuries before our time.  At the same time, we admit to the mixture of anticipation and anxiety which attends the future which, in the end, is in God's hands.

I hope that whatever times of transition may be in your life this year, they are life-giving ones.
