. . . from the Rectors Desk LIVING OUT THE MISSION
Our guest preacher at the 10:00 AM service this Sunday is someone who lives out mission in a variety of ways, not least in her work with the Bishop Masereka Christian Foundation. St. Peter's has recently begun to support the foundations work with AIDS orphans in western Uganda, and I am looking forward to hearing about its current work from her. Dr. Christiana Russ grew up near Knoxville, Tennessee, and was an undergraduate at Washington University in St. Louis. After graduation, she took a year off and spent time in discernment as a Micah intern in this diocese. The Micah program gives young adults a chance to discern while doing peace and justice associated ministry. Following medical school at the University of Tennessee, Dr. Russ returned to Boston for a combined Pediatric Residency Program at Children's Hospital and Boston Medical Center. Her ministry with the Jubilee programs of our diocese has included both the Maseno Anglican Hospital in Maseno, Kenya, and the foundations work in Kasese, Uganda. She is currently chair of the HIV/AIDS committee of the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church. I am privileged to welcome her among us this Sunday.

Transition in the
Second Half of Life with Beverly Ryle Saturday morning, May 17, 2008, 9:00 AM - 11:30 AM We live in a world where change is constant, but we make little space in our lives for dealing with it. The most significant events - death of a loved one, birth of a grandchild, a health setback -- get swallowed up in our culture's pervasive impetus to move on. In this workshop transitions coach Beverly Ryle will help us understand how to be in transition, to honor and adjust to these events in our lives. The second half of life today brings the expectation that many of us will live independently into our 90s with active minds and bodies. Yet while the spirit is young, many acknowledge the unmistakable signs of aging. This workshop will give participants an opportunity to share what they are experiencing, and to begin the process of planning for the coming years rather than waking up to find they are gone.
