new seawall New College of Florida's shoreline on Sarasota Bay is graced now with a newly constructed dock, an intertidal lagoon and a seawall that has been restored with a more historically accurate pink balustrade modeled after the original seawall built for circus magnate Charles Ringling in 1925-26. The State of Florida funded the project to repair the original seawall, which was on the verge of catastrophic collapse after weathering tides and storms for almost 90 years.

Art Center Sarasota, 707 North Tamiami Trail, Sarasota

Everything is Touching by Underground Wires is a new installation by Richard Herzog on display in Gallery 3 at Art Center Sarasota, Aug. 2 through Sept. 28, 2012. An opening reception will be held on Aug. 2, from 5-7 pm. Using non-traditional materials, Herzog constructs around the space to create a new environment inside the gallery. Herzog's goal as an artist is to make viewers look at things a bit differently and consider more closely the world that surrounds them. His recent work has been exploring the "artificialization" of nature. Richard Herzog is an assistant professor of sculpture at New College of Florida.
