Alumnae/i Association's Phonathon
15 stellar New College students have been hard at work this year making calls for the Alumnae/i Association's phonathon, which raises money for the annual fund. Over the course of five, week-long calling sessions spread throughout the year, the students raised $71,812, surpassing our $70,000 yearly goal! New College alumnae/i gave 70% of the funds; the balance was donated by parents. Thank you to our New College alum and parent donors for making our 2011-2012 phonathon an outstanding success!

Help Us End the Year on a High Note
Our graduating students are busy finishing up their thesis papers and presenting their baccalaureate exams. Dr. Mike Michalson is wrapping up the last weeks of his presidency and Dr.Donal O'Shea, New College's incoming president, is preparing to take over July 1st. The seasons are changing at New College! It's also the time of year when we wrap up our fiscal year and the New College Annual Fund Appeal. As Dr. Mike Michalson says, "Consider what a great start it would be for incoming President O'Shea if his first year on campus saw the fulfillment of some of our major campaign milestones." If you've already given this year, thank you for your support. If not, please make your gift now to the Annual Fund. The focus of the Annual Fund, within The New College Promise Campaign, is to raise the crucial, unrestricted funding required to address current needs of the entire campus, current year operations, including financial aid, faculty positions, faculty and student research, and vital institutional support.
Help us end the year on a high note! On behalf of the entire faculty, staff, and students of New College, thank you for your generosity.

Scholarship Reception
New College offers it's thanks to the many generous donors who gave scholarship gifts this year. 94% of New College students receive some form of financial/scholarship aid. A reception was held last month for donors to meet their scholarship recipients. In addition to presentations by staff, several students spoke about their gratitude for having received scholarship money. Another student, Alexis Santos gave a presentation about his student research project, an app he developed that helps visualize archeological sites as they looked centuries ago. We sincerely appreciate the community's help in ensuring all students can attend New College.

Donors to Watch

With a very generous donation from the Dr. Christine Hamilton-Hall '78 and the Stanley Newmark family, New College will name and dedicate its dock behind College Hall in memory of Hamilton-Hall's mother, Joan Marciak Newmark.
"Throughout my adolescence in St. Louis, my mother made our home the place other children felt comfortable congregating," Hamilton-Hall says about dedicating the dock. "When the New College library was at College Hall, I took comfort in taking a break from my studies to sit on the dock and watch the sunset. So it is fitting that my mother's memory be kept alive at New College at the best place on campus to hang out and/or watch the sunset."
After New College, Hamilton-Hall earned her D.M.D. from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine and her M.D. from Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons.
New College's dock is currently being rebuilt as part of the Seawall Restoration Project. Located on Sarasota Bay, the dock was built originally in the 1920s as part of the estate of circus magnate Charles Ringling, whose mansion is now College Hall.
