New College of Florida has garnered four Fulbright scholars for 2012-13, bringing the college's historical total to 69 Fulbright recipients. With this year's awards - all from the 2012 graduating class - New College has produced more than 30 Fulbright scholars in the past five years. This year's Fulbright recipients are Kathleen McQueeney (Boynton Beach, Fla.), Christopher Mulholland (Bradenton, Fla.), Susanna Payne-Passmore (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Dana Ziegler (Niceville, Fla.). "Four in One" Art Exhibition

New College of Florida art AOC seniors will exhibit artwork at Eckerd College, April 22 - May 11 in the Cobb Gallery. New College students included in the exhibition are Nicole Cardenas, Eugenie Fortier, Sherry Haber, Alexandra Miranda, Suzanne Olvey and Ben Sims. The exhibition, titled "Four in One," features the artwork of students from four area colleges including Eckerd College, New College of Florida, Ringling College of Art and Design and the University of South Florida in Tampa. New College seniors will exhibit featured works from their senior thesis including painting, sculpture, drawing and installation. A reception for the artists will be held on April 22, 5 - 7 pm, and the exhibition runs through Friday, May 11. Additionally, a Gallery Talk will be held Monday, May 7th by the four chairs of each schools respective fine arts program.

Take Back the Night

This event focuses on providing support for survivors of sexual assault, while raising awareness of the issue within the community. The schedule includes a keynote speaker with a story of survival, a silent march to commemorate the lives lost as a result of sexual assault, a speak-out (a space for survivors and allies to share their stories) and a candlelight vigil. This event is open to New College students, faculty, and staff, as well as to the wider Sarasota-Bradenton community.

National Drug Take-Back Day

New College of Florida will be participating in the DEA's National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, April 28, 2012, from 10 am-2 pm. During that time, members of the Sarasota and Bradenton communities are encouraged to drop off potentially dangerous, expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs at the New College Police Station, where officers will safely dispose of them. Participation in the program is completely anonymous.The New College Police Station is located at 501 College Drive, just one block north of University Parkway on U.S. 41. The public should park in the Heiser Natural Sciences parking lot opposite the police station.

For over a decade, the New College music department has partnered with a resident ensemble from the Sarasota Orchestra to promote music created by New College students. This concert by the Sarasota String Quartet will be the culmination of rehearsals that took place in 2011-2012 between the quartet and students.

Dr. Frank Alcock, senior fellow at the Collins Center for Public Policy and associate professor of political science at New College will present a lecture titled "To Drill or not to Drill?" on Tuesday, May 1, at 5:30 pm in Sainer Pavilion. The talk will consider dueling narratives of the stakes involved with expanded drilling throughout the United States, in the Gulf of Mexico and within Florida's coastal waters. It will argue that both narratives are compromised by exaggerated claims and rigid policy stances that continue to paralyze energy policy. Tickets are $10. New College faculty, staff and students can attend for free.
