In light of the SA legislation on salt and sodium reduction, we featured LomaSalt, a mineral salt replacer from our principal Dr Paul Lohmann, in our May newsletter.

| Caromin® - The Only True Mixed Carotene - Gaining Ground | |
In recent years, the importance of mixed carotenoids (alpha-carotene, beta-carotene, gamma-carotene and lycopene) as opposed to beta-carotene alone has been gaining recognition.
Our principal Carotech produces mixed carotenoids from palm and believes that no specific carotenoid is best. Their research has shown that all the carotenoids must be present in the correct ratios and at significant levels in the body to function synergistically and confer the health benefits associated with thees compounds.
Carotech's Caromin® is the only true mixed carotene; it contains more alpha-carotene than any other carotene product in the market and interestingly, only Caromin® has a similar carotenoid composition to that found in carrots: 33% alpha-carotene, 65% beta-carotene (in natural "cis"-form) and 2% other (e.g. gamma-carotene, lycopene, etc).
Food and dietary supplement manufacturers are beginning to replace synthetic beta-carotene or single beta-carotene with natural mixed carotenoids for three 3 main reasons:
