Frutarom's Olive Leaf Extract as Effective as Captopril in Stage 1 Hypertension
olive leafA recent study, conducted at the University of Indonesia, has proven that the olive leaf extract Benolea® from Frutarom is as efficient as the widely used drug captopril in lowering elevated blood pressure levels.

According to the study, Benolea also significantly reduces total cholesterol and plasma triglyceride levels, an effect which was not observed in patients taking captopril.

Astaxanthin's Effect on Blood Lipids is Better Understood

Studies have shown that astaxanthin supports cardiovascular health by reducing inflammation and oxidative stress in the arterial wall, and improving blood lipids.  Until recently, the mechanism for astaxanthin's effect on cholesterol has been poorly understood.

The results of BioReal Sweden's latest study suggest that AstaReal® astaxanthin lowers blood lipids by improving cholesterol metabolism, enhancing fat utilization and strengthening the body's own antioxidant defence system. This is the first study to demonstrate that astaxanthin plays a role as a regulator of the expression of genes involved in cholesterol and lipid metabolism.

BCM 95 Shows Better Anti-Inflammatory Dose-Response than Diclofenac sodium

Arjuna Natural Extracts recently conducted an anti inflammatory dose response study on their special turmeric extract called Biocurcumax (BCM-95®), comparing it with a regular turmeric extract and diclofenac sodium.

The results can be summarised as follows:

* Biocurcumax has a potent anti inflammatory effect at a low dose

* Biocurcumax is superior to regular turmeric extract at all doses tested

* Biocurcumax is a better anti-inflammatory agent than diclofenac sodium

**Recommended dosage is 250 mg twice or thrice daily**
