Mission

As a 501c3 not-for-profit social, business and fundraising organization Wonder Women's mission is to unite, inform, enlighten and empower diverse groups of women working together to positively impact other lives. Rather than discriminate, we focus on what we share, not what separates us.

We accomplish our mission through events that range from panel discussions, workshops, body, mind and spirit programs to events that focus on the arts, culture, entertainment and mentorship. We collaborate with other non-profit organizations, local partners and sponsors for community building through diversity, inclusion and progressive action.

                             Violence Against Women

                                     A Retrospective

On April 5, 2011, Wonder Women hosted a symposium on "Violence Against Women". Sponsored by Thomson Reuters and Yo In Yo Out French Bistro this proved to be very moving and thoughtful. The event, for a Tuesday evening, was well attended. It started with a short film documenting various women and men and their experiences surrounding violence. A big applause to Wonder Women's board of directors Jay Grayce and partner Mac Stewart (GraYce nYc Network) who did a wonderful job in the production, execution and portrayal of the brave women and men as they spoke to us. We felt their pain, saw their shame and all knew the work still needed to be done.

The guest speaker, Aldijana Sisic -Campaign Manager, UN Secretary-General's Campaign UNiTE to End Violence, riveted us with facts and somewhat appalling reality of what is occurring to women worldwide.

As I looked around the audience I saw the rapt attention on everyone's face. Her talk was open and frank but quite disturbing that in the 21stCentury this abuse if still going on. Ms Sisic spoke of the need for us to mobilize and continue with the struggle...never giving up since this travesty affects all of society. At the end of her speech it left me wondering what else I could do as I'm sure the audience felt as well!

Afterwards, a wonderful buffet of various hors d'oeuvres and drinks provided by Yoanne Magris (Yo In Yo Out) , Celebrity Chef and Co-Founder of Wonder Women, finalized a most memorable and insightful evening.

We at Wonder Women are very fortunate to have such amazing women dedicating their efforts to helping us fulfill our mission!

Sarra....

first fell in love with movement as a dancer in Calgary, Canada. She continued her dance and theater studies in California, where she attended Scripps College and graduated with a degree in French Literature and Philosophy. In San Francisco she studied acting at the American Conservatory Theater, and worked as an editor for one of the first internet search engines, "Ask Jeeves". She discovered yoga while taking midday classes, which became a much needed respite from office life.

Sarra headed south to Los Angeles where she started working and practicing at YogaWorks in Santa Monica. She completed her teacher training at YogaWorks with Maty Ezraty and Lisa Walford, and apprenticed with Annie Carpenter. She became certified in pilates two years later and spearheaded Yoga and Pilates Wellness programs in Santa Monica hotels and worked as a consultant to open and develop numerous private yoga studios in the Los Angeles area.

Sarra currently teaches classes and workshops for Equinox Fitness Clubs in New York, is a Group Fitness Manager and the Yoga Coordinator for the NYC region. She has appeared on segments for New York 1, Good Day New York, and is currently a spokesperson for Zobha. Sarra is inspired by her students and teachers daily, and is thrilled to have a job that inspires purpose and passion in others.

Jessa ....

moved to New York in June 2010 from Tallahassee Florida where she was a full time yoga instructor. She taught yoga at studios, gyms, private businesses and to the FSU football team. Jessa believes that yoga is a powerful vehicle capable of drastically improving the quality of both physical and mental health. After surviving severe injuries in a mo-pod accident in 2006, she holds even tighter to her belief in the power of yoga, her desire to be happy and to bring that happiness to others.

Having completed her undergrad in 2009 at Florida State University in Religion and Psychology she moved to New York City to pursue her passion for yoga and fitness. She is currently a personal trainer at Equionx, a bartender at RF Lounge, and works for Maggie C's parties. She also finds joy blogging on her own barbiemeets.buddha.blogspot.com and on velvetpark.media.com. Since moving to this wonderful city she loves exploring everything here and feels privileged to so often be in the presence of extraordinary women.
