Holiday Reflections
This December we had our first Holiday Open House. Folks from all over the Seattle area gathered for cookies and conversation and see for themselves how EFP works to provide local households with the balanced nutrition they need and deserve.
Many groups and individuals worked tirelessly - holding food drives and joining us in our warehouse to pack food bags - all helping to brighten the holidays for so many local households.
We were incredibly honored when KEXP radio (90.3 FM) choose EFP as their December nonprofit of the month. Through repeat radio spots KEXP called attention to the continuing problem of local hunger as well as spotlighting EFP's unique method of service. The proceeds of their annual "Shake the Shack" food drive (over 800 pounds of food) went to households served by EFP and they even held a benefit concert on our behalf at Ballard's Sunset Tavern.
We salute KEXP's commitment to this community and thank them for all they do to help feed our hungry neighbors.

Share the Dream
Our annual Share the Dream concert, a celebration of the life and enduring legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., took place January 15th. Despite the snowfall that turned so many Seattle area streets into snarled messes, the turn out for the event was pretty good. More importantly, the performances by members of both the Total Experience Gospel Choir and the Black Nativity Choir stirred our souls with inspiration. Also braving the heavy snow, Seattle Times columnist Jerry Large shared a reflection that called on us to let our lights shine even when darkness threatens.
It was an occasion to remember that no matter how far we've come, the dream of equality remains but a dream as long so many remain left out of the promise of prosperity and opportunity upon which our country was founded. As Dr. King put it, "All I'm saying is simply this, that all life is interrelated, that somehow we're caught in an inescapable network of mutuality tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly affects all indirectly. For some strange reason, I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be. You can never be what you ought to be until I am what I ought to be. This is the interrelated structure of reality."
