Volunteers from Boeing & Amazing Grace
Outside the EFP Warehouse |
May's Volunteer Groups
In May, groups from the following organizations joined us in our Seattle warehouse to help pack emergency grocery bags:
- The Bush School
- Plymouth Congregational Church
- Aimco (Bellevue)
- Magnolia Presbyterian Church
- Mercer Island High School
In addition, the following faith communities purchased food and packed EFP bags on their own:
- Wedgwood Presbyterian Church (Seattle)
- St. Paul's United Church of Christ (Seattle)
- University Congregational Church (Seattle)
- Kirkland Congregational Church (Kirkland)
- Holy Trinity Lutheran Church (Mercer Island)
- Eastgate Congregational Church (Bellevue)
And members of the Boeing Black Employees Association joined with folks from Amazing Grace Spiritual Center in a food drive held at four area Safeway stores on May 14th.
Their combined effort brought in an incredible 3,200 pounds of much-needed food.
Another food drive is being planned for July.
Our sincere thanks to everyone who lends a hand to help ensure that those who reach out to EFP will receive the nutrition they need and deserve.

Funding Delay Slows May Deliveries
Your Help Urgently Needed! | |
In the Month of May, EFP delivered only 1,507 emergency grocery bags (or a total of 21,194 pounds) to our distribution partners countywide. This represents a marked decrease compared to the nearly 2,000 bags that EFP normally delivers each month.
Why? It was not because fewer of our hungry neighbors are reaching out to us. No. The problem is cash flow.
There has been an unaccountable delay in the disbursement of funds promised to EFP by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. These are the funds that EFP had budgeted to help us maintain service this spring and summer when, historically, donations slow down while need remains high.
During this critical time, we are asking each of you to consider what you can do to help EFP continue to respond to the thousands of local households that reach out to us each month for helping keep food on the family table.
Join us for the June 23rd "GiveBIG" event (details above) or, if you are able, please give now by clicking below.
On behalf of all you are helping with your generous support, we sincerely thank you.

Partnership Profile:
Yes We Can!
Did you know that Northwest Harvest, the LDS cannery and the South King County Food Coalition are working together to help can food for hungry children and families in Washington State? Northwest Harvest provides the food, the LDS cannery provides the equipment, cans, boxes and labels, you provide the labor, and food programs operating in South King County (like EFP) receive the canned product for distribution to those in need!
This May a group of EFP volunteers had the opportunity to help can corn. Besides being a fun learning experience, this effort resulted in a wealth of canned corn that can now go into EFP emergency food bags.
