Upcoming Food Drives
Along with your financial donations, helping to conduct food drives is a primary way that you can help EFP meet the challenge of feeding our hungry neighbors.
On Saturday, May 14th from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., volunteer teams will be at the following area Safeway stores asking for your donations of vitally-needed food items: - Rainier Valley Safeway - 3820 Rainier Ave. S. in Seattle
- Holly Park Safeway - 3900 S. Othello in Seattle
- Rainier Beach Safeway - 9400 Rainier Ave. S. in Seattle
- Downtown Renton Safeway - 200 S. 3rd St. in Renton
In addition to grocery stores, food drives can be held at schools, business, and places of worship. EFP can provide flyers, donation barrels, and donation pickup. You provide the heart and hands that ensure success. If you are interested in finding out more about how you and your organization can help conduct a food drive on behalf of the thousands of individuals and families served by EFP, please contact us at 206-329-0300 or info@emergencyfeeding.org. |

April Service Levels | |
In the Month of April, EFP delivered 2,038 emergency grocery bags (a total of 31,601 pounds) to our distribution partners countywide. This is very nearly identical to the same period last year.
With requests for food assistance remaining very high and with additonal cuts to the state's social safety net certain, the number of households reaching out to EFP for help keeping food on the family table is expected to climb. Only with your help can EFP continue working to ensure that none of our neighbors goes hungry. |

NEW OUTREACH TO THE EAST AFRICAN COMMUNITY!
We are proud to announce that final testing is nearly complete on a new type of emergency grocery bag, this one designed specifically for the East African community. Designed by graduate students from the University of Washington's School of Public Health Nutrition with the advice of Seattle's Center for East African Community Affairs ( http://ceaca.org/) the new bag will be a two-day supply of vital nutrition that will provide members of this vibrant community with foods that are both balanced and culturally appropriate.
Look for this bag to be widely available by summer. |

Partnership Profile:
EPIPHANY SCHOOL
EFP Operations Director Brian Anderson puts it this way: "One of the best things about my job is that I get to work with the Epiphany kids."
For the past few years, Seattle's Epiphany School has sent each of their kindergarten through fifth grade students (in groups of between 16 and 32) to the EFP warehouse for an opportunity to make positive change in their community by helping pack emergency grocery bags. The kids bring their compassion for others and boundless enthusiasm to the task making for a joyful, if sometimes somewhat boisterous, hands-on educational opportunity.
As the 2010-11 school year ends, EFP would like to thank the staff, the parents, and most of all the students of the Epiphany School for another year of fun and service.
The truth is, we learn more from them than they do from us.
