Greetings!

Our topic this month: Marian Apparitions. A spirit has gone forth throughout the world, appearing to thousands of people in the form of a beautiful woman who claims to be Mary, the mother of Jesus. The Scriptures warn us to beware of lying spirits (1 Tim. 4:1) and to test the spirits (1 John 4:1). In this issue, we will explore these alleged appearances of Mary and compare her messages with the truth of the Bible. Matt McQuaid writes about the importance of these apparitions to Catholic dogma and puts the apparitions to the test. Ex-priest Richard Bennett describes how the Catholic Mary has attributes that parallel those of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

In the news, the bishop of Green Bay, Wisconsin formally approved the apparitions of "Our Lady of Good Help" as being of supernatural origin and worthy of belief. This is one of only 11 approved Catholic apparition sites in the world, and the first in the US. I have written summaries describing each of the eleven approved apparitions.

"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, thay you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil" (Eph. 6:10-11). Remember, we are in a struggle with the spiritual hosts of wickedness. Please pray especially for the millions who have succumbed to the false spirit of the Mythical Mary.

Testing the Spirits
by Matt McQuaidTesting the Spirits

Paul tells us that we are in a cosmic battle with spiritual forces. One of the ways that the evil forces attack us is through spirits that bring false messages. How are we to respond when a spirit appears? John tells us to test the spirits. In this article, Matt McQuaid places the Marian apparitions under the microscope of Scripture using the only test approved in the Bible: the Christological test of 1 John 4.

The Biblical Mary and Tradition
Mary exalted in heavenBy Richard Bennett

All Holy One. Our life, our sweetness, and our hope. Our advocate. Gate of heaven. Treasure house of God's graces. Refuge of sinners. All these are titles that the Catholic Church gives to Mary. Ex-priest Richard Bennett demonstrates how Mary is given the attributes of Jesus and the Holy Spirit via six parallels.

Book of the Month: Quite Contrary by Timothy Kauffman
Book of the Month: Quite ContraryAn in-depth look at Marian apparitions by a former Catholic who was devoted to Mary and the apparitions and faithfully wore the brown scapular recommended by Our Lady of Mt. Carmel (thus assuring release from purgatory on the Saturday after his death). Mr. Kauffman compares the messages with Scripture to show the errors of this satanic spirit. Of particular interest are the "tests" that have been utilized to confirm the veracity of these spirits.
