Bishop's Convocation Oct. 29-31 on Cape Cod

The 2012 New England Synod Bishop's Convocation, "Grounded in God," will be held Monday-Wednesday, Oct. 29-31, at the 52-acre Resort and Conference Center at Hyannis on Cape Cod, Mass. Learn more. This annual event is an opportunity for rostered leaders in the New England Synod to gather for fellowship, discussion and learning, and to speak with the new synod bishop. Rostered leaders should register online by Sept. 14.

Dr. James Nieman to Be Installed Oct. 28 as 7th President of LSTC

Inaugural weekend event to focus on 'ministerial wisdom' 

The Rev. James Nieman, Ph.D., former professor of practical theology and academic dean at Hartford (Conn.) Seminary, will be installed as the seventh president of Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago (LSTC) Sunday, Oct. 28, during a Service of Holy Communion at 4 p.m. at Rockefeller Memorial Chapel, Chicago. The Rev. Mark Hanson, presiding bishop of the ELCA, will preside. The Rev. Dr. Barbara Lundblad will preach. A free seminar on ministerial wisdom is set for Saturday, Oct. 27. Dr. Nieman is married to Pr. JoAnn A. Post, Concordia Lutheran Church,  Manchester, Conn. Learn more.

Conference for Pastoral Counseling for LGBT Youth and Their Families Oct. 30 in Waltham, Mass.

A conference focusing on the role of religious professionals in fostering family acceptance of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered (LGBT) people, supporting congregants and building safe, welcoming and inclusive communities for LGBT people and allies will be held Tuesday, Oct. 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Bentley University, Waltham, Mass. What LGBT youth need are families who love and accept them. Learn more or contact info@gbpflag.org.

Let's Celebrate 25 Years of Ministry!

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2013 under the theme, "Always being made new" (2 Corinthians 5:17). What God is doing through us here at home and around the world is worth celebrating. Our anniversary theme is also the theme for the 2013 ELCA Churchwide Assembly in August in Pittsburgh, Pa.
