Installation of Bishop-elect Hazelwood Sept. 29

You're Invited to Participate in Installation of New Synod Bishop

Bishop-elect Hazelwood

You are invited to the installation of the Rev. James E. Hazelwood as Bishop of the New England Synod to be held Saturday, Sept. 29, at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 73 Lancaster St, Worcester, Mass. Presiding Bishop Mark S. Hanson will preside and Bishop Lloyd Allen of the Episcopal Diocese of Honduras, one of the companion relationships of the New England Synod, will preach.

We also would like to invite people of the New England Synod to participate in this worship. There are a number of opportunities:

Sing in Synod-wide Choir

Singers from synod congregations are invited to participate in the installation choir. Music will be provided in advance and one rehearsal will be held on the day of the installation at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity, Worcester. A light lunch will be provided between the rehearsal and the installation liturgy. To sign-up or for more information, contact John Weit (jweit@trinityworc.org, 508.753.2989) by Sept. 10.

Assist in Worship

We are looking for lay persons who would be willing to assist with such roles as ushers and greeters, acolytes and communion assistants. If you would like to participate in one of these roles contact Beth Axelson at baxelson@verizon.net or Jon Niketh at pastor@flclynn.org by Sept. 10.

Ride in the Motorcycle Procession

What? Yes indeed. If you are a biker and would like to join our new bishop and the Lutheran Lizards as they ride from the parking lot of St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Charlestown, R.I. (departure at 10 a.m.) and make their way north to Trinity (anticipated arrival around noon), please join us. After arrival in Worcester, the Lizards are planning to enjoy lunch and spread the gospel around downtown Worcester. Don't worry, no bikes are allowed inside Trinity. If you are interested in joining this procession, contact Bishop-elect Hazelwood at jhazelwood@nesynod.org

Hammonasset 2012 "Get in the Way"
It is an exciting summer for our youth!  We had hundreds of youth and youth leaders from New England attend the ELCA Youth Gathering in New Orleans in July. They came together with groups from all over the country and celebrated "citizens with the saints" in worship, fellowship and service.  Coming up in September (Friday the 7th- Sunday the 9th) there is another opportunity for our Synod's youth to  re-connect, create new friendships, hear inspiring speakers, listen to Christian music, worship together and engage in service projects that will touch local and global communities.  The 2012 Hammonasset youth event  is just around the corner!  It's not too late to register...   Click HERE to register! This year the theme is "Get in the Way".  Part of "Getting in the Way" will be making hunger, poverty and loneliness "get out of the way" through a variety of service projects.  The event only a few weeks away and we're still in need of quite a few items for our projects.  Even if your congregation not sending a youth group to the event please consider sponsoring a project.  Click here for a list of projects and supplies.  Help our youth to "Get in the Way"!
