ELCA Advocacy Action Alert

Protect Global Emergency Food Aid and Development Assistance

The United States' Food for Peace (P.L. 480) program reflects Jesus' ethic of abundance, as well as current realities of global poverty, notes the ELCA Advocacy Network. Effectively combating extreme hunger requires a comprehensive investment in both food distribution and development.  Food for Peace combats chronic hunger, builds resilience, and provides adequate nutrition for poor families through emergency food aid and agricultural development assistance.

This week, the House will consider amendments to this bill that would cut Food for Peace even further. Urge your Representative to vote against further, damaging cuts to Food for Peace.

Why Lutheran?

Has anyone ever asked you, "Why are you Lutheran?" (Have you ever wondered that yourself?) Well, if the only answer you could come up with is that you were born one, click here to view presiding Bishop Mark Hanson's passionate response to this question. It was posed to him in 2010 at Follow Me: Sharing the Gospel in a 2.0 World, a gathering hosted by the ELCA for ELCA youth leaders and communicators. Show it to your friends.
