Knoll | What's Your Story?
On Saturday, May 19, Faith Lutheran Church, Gardner, Mass., sent five youth and three adults to the French Hill section of Nashua, N.H., to join nearly 500 youth and adults from all over New England for the Big Day of Serving, a mission project to renovate the area and spur neighborhood pride. At the end of the day, Daniel Knoll, one of the youth from Faith, spoke about what he had learned from this experience. "It doesn't matter how old or young you are," he said. "Everyone is able to do something." Read more. What's your story? How are you Doing What Matters? Tell us and we'll post it to the synod website as one of our mission stories. |

Muallem | $250 Needed for Next Scholarship
Khaled Muallem, the latest recipient of the New England Synod's college scholarship to a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land (ELCJHL), graduated May 20 from Birzeit University in Ramallah on the West Bank of Palestine / Israel, with a bachelor's degree in business and a minor in marketing. Muallem's home congregation is the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, Jerusalem, one of six ELCJHL congregations.
For some time now, the Global Mission Team of the New England Synod has been awarding a $2,000 scholarship each year to a student in the ELCJHL, one of the synod's two companion relationships. Donations to the scholarship fund come from congregations and individuals in the synod. The team is now looking for just $250 more so it can award another scholarship for this fall. To help, contact Pr. Tim Keyl, chair of the Global Mission Team, at 203-787-2346 or pastor@bethesdanewhaven.org. |
