Learning Opportunities

DVD Series on Islam Now Available

Our Churchwide office has provided the New England Synod with several sets of a six-video series on DVD entitled, "Discover Islam."  The series, produced by Discover Islam -- USA, has received endorsement from the Islamic Society of North America. This is a resource that has helpful information covering Islam Faith & History. Topics include: Women of Islam; Islam: An American Faith; Islam a faith hijacked; Christians and Islam; and African Americans and Islam.

The Rev. Donald McCoid, assistant to ELCA Presiding Bishop Mark S. Hanson and executive for ecumenical and inter-religious relations, has reviewed the videos and believes these documentary videos will provide an opportunity to gain a better understanding of Islam. They also provide an opportunity to discuss areas where we have common understanding, such as love of God and neighbor, as well. If you would like to borrow a set for use within your congregation, please contact, Cathy Schlichte, synod receptionist, at  receptionist@nesynod.org or 508-791-1530.

ELCA Malaria CampaignMalaria Campaign

LET'S MAKE MALARIA HISTORY!

Today we are in a special moment where we could turn this around. Working though Lutheran churches in Africa, the ELCA Malaria Campaign is uniquely positioned to provide mosquito nets, insecticides, medication, health care, education and more to help eliminate deaths from this disease-for good.

ELCA colleges, universities and campus ministries may apply for program grants of $1,500 or social media grants of $500 to support campus-wide fundraising efforts that benefit the ELCA Malaria Campaign. Double your impact!  Applications are due March 1, 2012. Grants will be announced April 1, 2012. All fundraising efforts should be completed by the 2013-14 academic year.
